Als Verstappen blijft winnen, vanaf welke race kan hij dan al bekroond worden tot Wereld Kampioen?
Een collega hier riep namelijk net vanaf Zandvoort, maar ik twijfel eraan of hij hierin wel gelijk heeft.
With Verstappen's current lead, he can become champion in Brazil at the earliest. After the Brazilian GP, there are still 52 points to be earned, and Verstappen would already be safe if he maintains his 69-point lead. However, given the proportions this season, Verstappen is expected to only run further ahead in the upcoming races.
If Verstappen wants to become world champion during the Zandvoort GP, he must be 259 points ahead of number two in the championship. After the race at Circuit Zandvoort, there are still 258 points to be divided, and nobody can mathematically catch Verstappen. Unfortunately, this turns out to be unfeasible for Dutch fans.
Even if Verstappen maximises in Austria, Britain, Hungary, Belgium and the Netherlands and the competition scores zero points, Verstappen only scores 146 points. Together with the current 69-point lead, that together equates to 215 points. In this unlikely scenario where the entire competition does not score points, that is still not enough to become champion.
