Tusk called on Ukraine not to count only on EU support while reforming the state. Prior to the beginning of the EU-Ukraine summit’s plenary session, Donald Tusk, President of European Council, paid tribute to Heavenly Hundred heroes, victims of Maidan protest, Ukrainska Pravda reported. He called on Ukrainians not to count solely on EU support while conducting comprehensive reforms, adding that free from corruption and modern Ukraine would be the best memory for Ukrainian heroes shoot dead on Maidan. Tusk made his statement in Ukrainian language.

Juncker avoid naming Ukraine as a European country. During the joint press conference with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, has avoided a direct answer on the question whether Ukraine is a European country, European Pravda reported. Ukraine belongs to European and not African family, Juncker said. The web site underlined that the EU continues to avoid recognition of Ukraine as a European country that would allow Kyiv to count on EU membership perspective. Juncker, however, does not rule out that the EU would recognize Ukraine’s EU aspirations in future.

We have already delayed its implementation, Juncker has said, adding that such delays could not be repeated.
Juncker: Commission would allocate EUR 70 million for nuclear safety in Chernobyl. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of European Commission, said that the EU has pledged another EUR 70 million for ensuring nuclear safety in Chernobyl, European Pravda reported. The EUR 70 million pledge, announced at the EU-Ukraine Summit, amounts to some EUR 360 million provided already for the completion of a number of projects, including the New Safe Confinement being built to enclose the existing 'sarcophagus' and reactor 4 destroyed during the 1986 accident. The aim of the New Safe Confinement is to protect the environment from radiation releases and provide the infrastructure to support deconstruction of the 'sarcophagus', remains of the reactor and nuclear waste management operations.
Hahn expects complete ratification of EU-Ukraine AA by the year end. European Pravda quotes Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and ENP, saying that the European Commission expects all 28 EU member states to complete ratification of the Association Agreement with Ukraine by the year end. Hence the AA provisional application would be turned into the full functioning of the deal. Any discussions about new delays in DCFTA implementation would lose then any reasons, the Commissioner added.
Hahn: EU expects Ukrainian constitutional and judicial reforms. During his meeting with Volodymyr Hroysman, Head of Ukrainian Parliament, Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and ENP, noted that Brussels expects from Ukraine the conduct of constitutional and judicial reforms as well as the reform of Ukraine’s prosecutor’s office, European Pravda reported with reference to Verkhovna Rada web site. The Commissioner also noted the Parliament’s commitments to reforms.
Poroshenko called on EU to provide membership perspective to Ukraine. Opening the plenary session of the EU-Ukraine summit, Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, called on the EU to recognize Ukraine’s EU membership perspective, European Pravda reported. Our goal is effective implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in 5 years which then should be followed by Ukraine’s official application for EU membership, Poroshenko said
Poroshenko asked EU to maintain Russian sanctions until Minsk agreements implementation. Speaking at the EU-Ukraine bilateral summit, Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, called on the EU to maintain sanctions against Russian until full implementation of the Minks agreements. EU restrictive measures adopted in respond to Russian actions against Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security have become forced but necessary step and should be extended in full scale before the complete implementation of the Minsk agreements, Poroshenko emphasized. Russian threat has global nature and demands coordinated actions to protect European security and values, he added.
Poroshenko called on EU to deploy peacekeepers in Donbas. During the today’s 17th EU-Ukraine bilateral summit, Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, called on the EU to deploy it security mission under the EU Common Security and Defense Policy in Donbas in order to facilitate Minsk agreements’ implementation, Channel 5 reported. “Our discussion [with EU leaders] has proved the harmony of views on the ways to overcome the security challenges faced not only by Ukraine, but also by the entire Europe,” the Head of State noted. He, moreover, underlined that Ukraine was, is and will be a consistent executor of the Minsk agreements. We strive for peace, not for war, Posroshenko stressed.
Poroshenko expects receiving an exhaustive list of steps towards visa-free regime in Riga.a. Speaking at a joint press conference with EU Presidents, Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, expressed his hope that Ukraine and the EU would form an exhaustive list of steps allowing Kyiv to reach visa-free regime with the Union by the end of 2015, Liga reported. He, moreover, noted that Russian aggression should not hinder Ukrainian citizens from receiving visa-free travel to Europe. According to an unnamed source in Administration of Ukraine’s President, the EU has rejected three Ukraine’s key proposals to the EU-Ukraine joint statement. Brussels refused to fix Ukraine’s EU membership perspective, to state a clear timeframe till when the visa regime should be lifted and to mention EU peacekeeping mission to eastern Ukraine
