The Cast:
Jim Crowley - CEO Turbine
Bads Bunny - Warner Bros harbinger and messenger of the board
Scene 1 - Turbine Boardroom
Bads: Jim, well done on your figures - those stupid gamers clearly dont realise how much money they are spending on the so called free to play. In fact the profit you are making is so impressive, we are going to dismiss our partners and take everything for ourselves.
Jim: But Codemasters are still reeling from losing D&D, this could put them out of business and they are a valueable strategic partner should we wish to start up anything else in Europe....
Bads: I didnt realise you would let 'emotion' cloud your judgement.....it would be a shame if the board heard about this.....
Jim: Oh...Oh... no you are right, I will make the necessary arrangements. One thing though, we will need to upgrade our equipment. Our log on servers, webspace and ancilliaries just wont handle the massive uplift of people trying to log on and play. They will suffer long delays, lag and their whole play experience will be severely degraded...
Bads: Again you surprise me Jim, do you not realise that your so called 'players' are in fact more like addicts? They will continue trying to play even if it takes 2 hours to log on and have only 1 fps. Sure they will whinge and complain, but you are not actually telling me you care are you?
Jim: Well yes, we have a pretty neat product here, it would be foolish to damage it in this way, you must let us upgrade our stuff...
Bads: oh I must, must I? So le me explain as you seem to have lost all sense and reason, some of those troublesome people that we make no profit on, and who believe they are valued and long time customers, yes those with lifetime accounts, may make noisy departures - some of the people who are trying to free to play and actually believe they arent meant to pay may go, but the revenue stream will only be slightly down - our figures in HQ esimate no more that 2%. Do you realise how much the upgrades will cost? Take the 2% drop and factor it into your business plan, we, err you will still be massively in profit.
Jim: I get all that, but it doesnt seem to promote longevity in our product....
Bads: (Evil Laugh)...Longevity??? This product will continue as long as it has massive profit. You start even thinking about making some profit, or a slight profit and We will sell the product to Maxis...that will shut them all up, and if you dont do as you are told, you will go with it.
Jim: Yes Sir, Sorry Sir.....
