Kijk net iets vaker op Tweakers dan op Discord. Maar ben verder geen reageerder eigenlijk.

Moet wel zeggen dat de laatste updates zeker de WIFI afhandeling ten goede zijn gekomen. Ben nu echt wel tevreden met de AB. Natuurlijk zijn er wat quirks, maar ze zijn in een half jaar heel ver gekomen.

Dat was ook exact waarom er destijds mee begonnen is, naast dat er voor v1 geen updates meer uitkwamen. En dan mis je echt veel functionaliteit, eigenlijk alles juist waarvoor je deze remote hebben wilt.

Waarschijnlijk is alleen de updates van de stable v3 posten straks de modus, plus eventueel hele interessante highlights uit de bèta’s.

WiFi

• "Enable"/"disable" of a saved network is now stored permanently, and enabling a network reconnects an idle device (#469).
• WiFi settings are only saved once the device has actually connected. A mistyped password or a failed connection no longer overwrites your working configuration.
• Deleting the network you are currently connected to no longer leaves the device offline; it reconnects to another saved network.

Web-Configurator

• Fixed a drag-and-drop issue where reordering sequence steps in the editor could duplicate an existing step.

• Fixed a crash when reading the standby state, and internal sleep blocks (updates, setup, activities) are no longer wiped by a client clearing inhibitors.

General stability improvements

• Fixed the burst of database errors on startup with large setups (for example a big Home Assistant installation with multiple hundred entities), which could leave a dock's IR emitter unavailable until the next reboot or configuration change.
• Large bursts of entity state changes are now merged in 100 ms windows, so busy integrations no longer overload the system.
• Software updates
• Free disk space is checked before a firmware download starts, instead of filling up storage and retrying forever.
• A corrupted download is now discarded, so retrying actually re-downloads it instead of failing until the next reboot.
• Two dock updates, or a dock update together with a system update, can no longer run at the same time.
• Update progress is always reported for the update that is actually running.

This beta update improves WiFi reliability after standby, adds an activity readiness check that tells you what is wrong before an activity starts, makes the remote's settings and setup screens fully usable with the d-pad, and keeps integration setups alive for as long as the setup dialog is open.

Note: unlike the previous beta, this release changes the WiFi driver on both models with new fixes from the manufacturer.

Fixed
WiFi

• Reconnecting after standby is faster and more predictable: the device no longer forces a reconnect while it is still scanning, gives a slow DHCP server time to answer before retrying, and returns to the access point it was using before standby instead of switching to a weaker one.
• Remote 3 on WPA3 networks with more than one access point: the first connection attempt after a wake-up was rejected and only the retry succeeded. The cause, opportunistic key caching, is now disabled and removed from existing configurations at the first boot after the update (#818, #722).
• Turning WiFi back on after it had been off across a standby could take up to a minute until the device had an IP address again. It now takes a few seconds.
• WiFi that was disabled in the settings was re-enabled by the next wake-up from standby.
• The tuned WiFi roaming parameters were not restored after every wake-up.
• Remote Two: the retry delay after a failed WiFi authentication is now capped at 30 seconds, as on Remote 3, instead of growing to several minutes.
• Remote 3: The WiFi band restriction (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) is now applied at startup, before the connection is established. Changing it no longer touches the running connection, which could hang the WiFi controller until a reboot. The new band takes effect after a restart, and the Web-Configurator offers the reboot right away.
• A rejected connection attempt is now attributed to the access point that was actually tried. Previously the access point used before standby was blamed and temporarily blocked, which could slow down the following reconnects (#818).
• New manufacturer wifi driver fixes for improved communication with the WiFi controller and firmware reloading.
• Activities & macros
• Starting an activity while another activity in the same group had been stopped mid-way sent duplicate power-on commands to shared devices and left the stopped activity's other devices on. The group switch now also handles stopped activities.
• The readiness check reported an activity as ready although a device was unavailable (for example a device behind a switched-off power outlet), an IR output port no longer existed, a nested activity or macro was already running, or a remote command was invalid.
• A device that does not respond during an activity set to "ignore errors" was reported like a fatal failure. It is now shown as a warning while the run continues.
• An activity that failed or timed out while its screen was open never turned its header red.
• Setting up an integration failed with "connection refused" if the integration had been set up before and then deleted (regression from 2.10.2).
• Dock LED brightness was passed to the dock unconverted: setting 10% dimmed the LED to 4%, and a brightness reported by the dock could be discarded (#806).
• User interface
• Initial setup: the timezone list contained more than a hundred unrelated entries that merely shared the UTC offset of the selected country. Only the country's own timezones are listed now, and country names follow the selected language.
• The WiFi settings could not be walked with the d-pad past the WiFi band row, and the network lists lost their selection every few seconds when a scan result arrived. Networks are now updated in place and listed strongest signal first.
• Settings rows selected with the d-pad are brought fully on screen, including the value labels below the last slider of the power settings, which were cut off (#582).
• OK on the dock rename, dock password, profile name, entity rename and group rename dialogs sent the request twice.
• BACK in the profile rename, page add and page rename dialogs closed the list behind the dialog instead of the dialog; BACK on a running dock or integration setup now cancels the setup instead of only closing the popup.
• Cancelling a selection list in the localisation settings with BACK could write a wrong value into another setting on the next selection, for example a timezone into the language, which the remote rejected with "Invalid language code format" errors.
• Web-Configurator
• The name and icon of an included entity in the activity and macro views did not follow a rename or a new icon until a reload.
• The IR output dropdown in the remote editor and the add-IR-remote wizard did not follow a dock going online or offline.
• The search field of the "Add commands" and entity picker dialogs did not get the focus when opened.
• The browser's back button from the activities list could land on a copy of the list instead of the editor.
• Fixed incomplete Polish plural forms (#196).
• Denon/Marantz AVR: fixed an invalid calculated volume, reduced log spamming and handled receivers reporting "NO" as maximum resolution. #759. Contributed by @henrikwidlund (denonavr#231, denonavr#233).

Added

• Activity readiness check and failure reports
• Before an activity is switched on or off, the remote checks whether the run would succeed: a disconnected integration, an unavailable dock or IR emitter, Bluetooth being off, an unreachable or deleted device. The check now has its own screens: the first names the activity, how many devices need attention and at which step the activity would stop; "What is wrong" shows the predicted run step by step. Devices already in the wanted state no longer count as not ready.
• A failed activity or macro run now shows what happened at a readable size: the step it stopped at, the device that did not react and the reason, followed by Close and Try again. Try again repeats the same command right away (#802).
• Web-Configurator: a "Check" control next to every run control in the activity and macro sequence editors asks what a run would do right now, without sending any command. The result is a verdict with one card per cause and a link to the dock, integration, entity or remote that needs attention; affected rows are marked in the editor. The detail views can run the same check before starting an activity.
• The error policy of an activity (stop at the first failed step, or carry on) is now stored with the activity and can be set in the Web-Configurator.
• The state of an activity itself can now be fixed on the remote, not only the state of its devices: tapping a failed activity offers "Fix state without sending commands", and the activity is the first row of the "Fix states" page (#16, #795).
• The remote's settings and setup screens can now be operated entirely with the d-pad: WiFi network and password dialogs, page management (rename, reorder, delete, add), profiles and icon selection, integration and dock setup forms, entity lists and groups, and the dock and integration settings with all their actions (#581).
• Initial setup: after choosing a language, the countries where it is spoken are listed first with the most likely one preselected. Countries with a single timezone skip the timezone list; countries with several show only their own zones, labelled with city and GMT offset.
• Improved integration setup and support for long-running setup processes: a setup no longer times out while its dialog is open, on the remote or in the Web-Configurator. On battery the setup time is limited depending on the charge level, and the remaining time is shown. Error messages reported by the integration are shown in the UI language, invalid input is corrected in place instead of restarting the setup, and a setup step the integration is waiting on can be cancelled (#740).
• WiFi link watchdog: while the remote is awake, the network path is checked every two minutes. If the connection looks established but no longer passes traffic (for example after a night in the charging dock), diagnostics are written to the system log. Automatic recovery is off by default and can be enabled with a feature flag for troubleshooting (#821, #722, #718).
• The diagnostic log bundle now contains more WiFi details: driver and firmware state, the persistent WiFi configuration (without secrets), watchdog results and a cross-boot connection history. The "WiFi driver" log option has been renamed to "Network".
• Web-Configurator: a "Reboot required" banner with a reboot button is shown in Settings once a change needs a restart, for example a new WiFi band or Bluetooth HCI logs.

Changed

• "Active WiFi scanning" is automatically disabled if it was enabled. This setting should no longer be used with the current firmware and only remains available for testing.
• Web-Configurator: translation updates for all languages, including the previously untranslated integration setup and readiness check texts. These are a machine-translated baseline, corrections are welcome on SimpleLocalize.
• Denon/Marantz AVR: translation management moved to SimpleLocalize, updated dependencies.
• Home Assistant: Removed the 5 minute setup limitation (home-assistant#98, #740).
• Security improvements and hardening of API endpoints.
• Core-API: the WebSocket API now mirrors the REST endpoints for activities, activity groups, macros, remotes, custom IR codes, the IR code database and dock updates.

Known Issues

• Some Remote 3 devices may experience "ghost touches" after waking up. This is unrelated to display artifacts. If you encounter persistent ghost touches, please contact support.
• Automatic display brightness and button backlight settings are currently unavailable in the UI and disabled in the Web-Configurator.
• Remote 3: Ambient light sensor sensitivity will be improved in a future firmware update.
• Sonos integration: A recent Sonos firmware update has affected local API access. Power-cycling your Sonos speakers may temporarily resolve connection issues. We are planning to rewrite the Sonos integration using a different API.
