Dit is een post die ik op het forum van AMDZone heb gemaakt, ik kopieer hem ff.
"Here a quick table i made on the current and upcoming Athlon 64 cpu's.
2800+ 1.8 512 single
3000+ 2.0 512 single
3200+ 2.0 1024 single
3200+ 2.2 512 single
3400+ 2.2 1024 single
3400+ 2.4 512 single
3500+ 2.2 512 DUAL CHANNEL
3700+ 2.4 1024 single
3800+ 2.4 512 DUAL CHANNEL
As you can see, the 512kb 3400+ is the odd one out. The 3700+ will only offer a marginal performance improvement over the 2.4 Ghz 512kb 3400+, while the latter will likely outperform the 3500+
If we scrap the 512kb 3400+, it gets much better already:
2800+ 1.8 512 single
3000+ 2.0 512 single
3200+ 2.0 1024 single
3200+ 2.2 512 single
3400+ 2.2 1024 single
3500+ 2.2 512 DUAL CHANNEL
3700+ 2.4 1024 single
3800+ 2.4 512 DUAL CHANNEL
The remaining problem is the one of the 64FX's.
2800+ 1.8 512 single
3000+ 2.0 512 single
3200+ 2.0 1024 single
3200+ 2.2 512 single
3400+ 2.2 1024 single
3500+ 2.2 512 DUAL CHANNEL <-> FX-51@940
3700+ 2.4 1024 single
3800+ 2.4 512 DUAL CHANNEL <-> FX-53@940
FX-53 2.4 1024 DUAL CHANNEL@939 (unregistered)
Note, i expect cpu's on the same line to offer similar performance.
The differences in the rating numbers is, ofcourse, derived from the following features of an A64:
(in order of performance impact)
-speed bumb of 200 mhz (increases rating with 300)
-dual channel memory and 512kb (increases rating with 100)
-single channel and 512 kb cache (decreases rating with 100 or 200)
examples: 3400+ + (speed bumb of 200 mhz) = 3700+
3400+ + (speed bumb of 200 mhz) + (dual ch. and 512kb) = 3800+
Although a system like this makes sense performance-wise, it's not always applied.
The 3400+ should have been a 3500+ by this metric, but AMD decided the 3200+ was a bit of a stretch that should be corrected at the next speed bump. The 2800+ should really be a 2700+ when we compare it to what happened to the 3200+ and the 3000+, (minus 300 for the clock decrease, minus 200 for only 512 kb)
It is clear that the single channel 512 parts mess up the system."
