edit: Sorry voor het Engels - ik doe een copy/paste van een Engelstalig forum van mezelf. Ik heb zelf een hele tijd lightning gespeels en voor hogere Torment-levels is het eigenlijk gewoon niet viable.
It is not only the extra 60% elemental damage from Cindercoat + Magefist, That is just the icing on the cake.
What also matters is that the Fire-runes for popular skills are simply higher damage:
Frenzy: Lightning gives stun, Fire gives 2.5% x5 = 12.5% extra damage
HotA: 535% weapon as lightning + stun, Fire gives 640% damage
Earthquake: 2600% as lightning + cost-reduction. Fire gives 4500% damage
Now since these effects are multiplicative it becomes pretty obvious that if you do not need the stuns you simply will do a lot more damage with fire. With the popular weapon-choices and set items as such you can easily obtain:
60% lightning and ~100% fire
Net damage increase on :
Frenzy: 248% Lightning damage versus 387% Fire damage
without the 12.5% from x5 Frenzy (which is not always up, so not counting):
EQ: 4160% Lightning damage versus 9000% Fire damage.
HotA: 856% Lightning damage vs 1070% Fire damage
As you can see it is just a matter of simple math: Higher multipliers AND higher damaging skills equals tremendously more damage - sometimes as much as 2x more on really high damaging skills such as EQ..
