Als hij bevalt annuleer ik de Audeze Penrose X
Het wachten daarop duurt me echt te lang en lees dat er best veel aan mankeert voor een headset van 300 euro.
Vergelijk tussen de twee headsets door een reddit user :
Headset comparison - Arctis 7p vs Audeze Penrose
I posted this in a gaming headset sub but I figured this sub might also be interested. I was really excited about the Penrose but had some issues with them. So I wound up purchasing some 7Ps and wrote a comparison up.
Before proceeding, a little bit of background about my needs. I play mostly single player games, and do not care too much about chat functions and the microphone. I am mostly interested in just having a good quality headset that I can use to play without waking up my child or disturbing the rest of my family. I am also not an audiophile, so I can’t really speak to technical differences between the two headsets.
Let me begin by stating the biggest pro of the Audeze. The sound is definitely better, in the sense that it is a fuller sound, if that makes sense. The interesting thing though is that this difference is only apparent to me when I try the two headsets side by side. The Arctis 7P still sound great, but there is definitely an edge to the Penrose, which is to be expected.
The only other pro that I give to the Penrose, and this is minor, is that the PS5 sound automatically switches to TV when the Penrose are powered off. This is not the case for the 7P for some reason. Not a big deal for me since 99% of the time I play with headphones, and I do not mind pressing a few buttons to switch to TV if needed. Neither headset has chat mix, obviously.
So my calculus is as follows: is the minor differential in sound quality offered by the Penrose enough to outweigh the costs. What are the costs?
First, the Arctis 7P is infinitely more comfortable. As other reviewers have stated, it feels like a cloud on my head.
Second, I feel that the Arctis 7P is an overall more polished product. It works exactly as advertised - plug in and play. No connection issues. It’s hard to explain, but it is clear that this is a refined product, whereas the Penrose feels like I am buying a headset from a “startup company.” Little details, like the obnoxious voice announcing that the headset is powered on leave a bad impression on me.
Third, and perhaps a minor difference, the 7Ps are more aesthetically pleasing. The blue is not a hideous color - it is more subdued and does not look like cheap plastic.
Finally, the controls on the headset are more intuitive.
This is all of course excluding the price consideration, which is not as important to me. I budgeted for an expensive headset, so I am not factoring this in.
To sum up, the Audeze has better sound (but for me it is only obvious when comparing the two side by side). The Arctis 7P is more comfortable, better design, more polished, no connection issues, and is more aesthetically pleasing.
Again, the question is: how much does that delta in sound quality matter? Personally, I’m leaning towards keeping the 7P and returning the Penrose. Happy to answer any questions. Hope this is helpful.
Edit: forgot to mention one area for improvement for the 7p. My ear is touching the inside of the driver and a thicker pad would help. Just ordered some wicked cushions that I hope do the trick.
