Audi R8 LMS:
This being said, the R8 is still one of the more challenging cars to drive within the class and requires a steady hand and good understanding of its strengths and weaknesses to bring out its pace. Attempting to ‘force’ the car to go fast through aggressive inputs will generally not be rewarded with a fast lap time but instead a spin.
So, how does it perform relative to other cars? The R8’s strengths lie in its ability to put less energy into its tires (specifically the front tires) relative to other cars in its class. This can lead to it being a tricky car to extract qualifying pace from as it can take some time to bring the front tires up to temperature but it is a trait which will generally result in the car performing strongly towards the end of a fuel run. Its weakness is undoubtedly its narrow operating window relative to other cars such as the Ferrari 488 and Mercedes AMG.

Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO:
In my opinion the Huracán is a more comfortable car to drive compared to the Audi R8 LMS but perhaps a little bit slower in ultimate pace as a tradeoff. It sounds glorious and is worth driving for that alone!
In terms of handling behaviour you will find it quite comparable to the Audi R8 LMS and as such it requires a similar driving style to get the best out of it, one in which you refrain from overdriving the corner entry and focus on letting the car roll through the corner of its own accord. If you pace yourself the Huracán can be a very potent car and enjoyable driving experience.

Ford GT GT3:
How does it handle? Put simply, I believe this car is the best it’s ever been. It’s overall handling characteristics are vastly improved and it’s a very enjoyable driving experience. It’s best attribute is its braking capability and braking stability, you can drive deep into braking zones with confidence (though that’s no excuse for dive bombs!) and generally speaking, there’s not much that’s going to catch you out in this car anymore.
How does it perform? As mentioned the Ford GT’s greatest strength is its braking capability so you must leverage it to unlock the pace of the car. This also gives the car an interesting advantage when battling others as it will be typical to see the Ford GT win a braking contest. That said, it’s not all positives for the Ford GT, you will find that it slides the rear around a little bit more than other cars and in doing so puts a lot of temperature into its rear tyres, if this isn’t properly managed the pace will begin to drop off towards the end of a long run making the Ford GT’s vulnerable.

McLaren MP4-12C GT3:
How does it handle? Very well! This car is a blast to drive but does require a quite unique driving style to get the most out of it. This car has a reputation for being a little bit on the difficult side due to past history but I can assure you that’s not the case now. It still retains its original character but is a far more manageable car compared to years past. To get the best out of this car you must leverage its ability to accelerate out of the corner which means slowing the car down gently, getting it turned in and absolutely standing on the throttle while aiming to unwind the wheel as early as possible! Overdriving the corner entry will be very detrimental and you will lose a lot of time if you miss the apex as you will have to wait to get onto the throttle and lose out in the area where the car is at its strongest.
How does it perform relative to other cars? Its biggest strength is its traction and acceleration out of tight corners, if you can hit your line right the McLaren can be a very strong car at tracks with lots of acceleration zones such as Road America. Its biggest weakness is that in leveraging its strength it tends to heat its rear tyres relatively more than other cars which can lead to it being a little bit of a handful at the end of a long run. Similarly, if you try to force the car to turn with the steering wheel you will find that you will only achieve excessive wear of your front tyres. This is a car that rewards a patient and methodical driver.

Ferrari 488 GT3:
In terms of handling behaviour this car retains much of its prior characteristics with the expectation that its on the limit behaviour is now much more approachable. This means that you should be able to recover from some slides that would previously have resulted in a large off. Similarly, it is just as good as it has always been at handling kerb strikes and rough surfaces!
So how does it perform relative to others in the class? The greatest strength of the 488 is its general driveability and handling over rough track surfaces and kerbs. This results in the 488 being quite an easy car to drive and is a relatively good choice for beginners. That said, it is not without its drawbacks. Relative to other cars in the class the 488 can be quite unstable during hard braking events and tends to put a lot of energy into its front tires. This can be an advantage in qualifying conditions where turning the tires ‘on’ quickly is desirable but it can also result in some significant understeer towards the end of a long run as well as higher than average tire wear if not managed properly.

Mercedes AMG GT3:
How does it handle? The car retains its good past traits and remains one of the most manageable and approachable GT3 cars on the service in terms of drivability and setup. It is a very predictable car to drive that infrequently punishes mistakes while packing a significant amount of low end punch thanks to its relatively broad power band. This car can be pushed hard without much penalty for doing so and will excel on street courses where driveability is key.
How does it perform relative to the others? The strength of this car is its forgiving nature and strong low end power which make it an inherently good choice for beginners and those who want a more relaxed driving experience. It will perform well in a racing situation due to this behaviour as you can concentrate on the battle without having to worry about staying on top of the car. That said the Mercedes’ strengths are almost its weaknesses as well, overall response tends to be slower than that of other cars resulting in reduced agility and its forward engine position can put a lot of strain on the front tyres if not properly managed or accounted for in setup.
