With the price-cut of Athlon II X2 250,AMD needs one to replace its marketing position.A compatibility list from motherboard vendors reveals new 3.1GHz Athlon II X2 255.

Athlon II X2 253 clocks at 3.1GHz,and has 200MHz of FSB, 15.5x of multiplier.Each core comes with 64K L1 instruction Cache、64K L1 data Cache,a total of 128KB of L1 cache;2MB of L2 cache.It supports SSE、SSE2、SSE3、SSE4A multimedia instruction sets and X86-64 computing instruction sets.At the same time,it adopts AM3 interface with support for DDR3 1066 and DDR2 800 memory,compatible with AM2+ motherboard.
In Q4 2009
Calisto, AMD’s quad-core with two cores enabled and 7 MB of total cache will get its 3.2GHz version at some point in Q4 2009.
Calisto has 2x512KB L2 cache per core and additional 6MB of L3 cache that makes it quite fast CPU. The name is Phenom II X2 555 and this CPU will work at 3.2GHz.
Most people will like the fact that this CPU offers a lot of performance and 80W TDP and at the same time, there might be a chance that you’ll be able to unlock the additional two cores and get the quad core for the price of dual.
Judging from the previous pricing, this CPU should cost around €80 in Euroland or around $100 in USA.
It’s possible
Many people didn't like the fact that Phenom II X4 965 has TDP of 140W, and many thing that is too much. As we said before in Q4 2009 AMD plans to launch Phenom II X4 965 with a 125W TDP and 3.4GHz frequency that will make many people happy.
This is not all as the latest roadmap just got one more member. AMD plans Phenom II X4 955 with 3.2GHz in 95W. This is a great success as the current X4 955 has 125W TDP. The 95W Phenom II X4 955 will appear in Q2 2010 as AMD plans to bring a new, better revision of Deneb core out.
This new Deneb revision should keep the existing TDPs down and this is the same core that will find its way to quad-core notebooks.
More to come
AMD has listed two Propus based quad-cores with 45W TDP. Many power-saving freaks will definitely embrace these CPUs as they doen’t need a lot of cooling.
The only one available was the AMD Athlon II X4 600e, 4x 2.20GHz listed
here for €99.90.
The faster AMD Athlon II X4 605e at 4x 2.30GHz is listed but not available. The funny part is that Regor dual-core can also work at 45W TDP but with frequencies of 2.7 or 2.8GHz.
Less than 2.0GHz-clocked Regor dual-cores will be able to work with a TDP of just 25W and such CPUs should come before the end of the year.
