Multiplayer Rev
Considering the fact that most people don't have Big screens. How will Nintendo's new console work with multi-player games. I'm picturing four guys trying to play on a 23 inch TV screen, but they can't because their hands keep bumping into each other.
Matt responds: Nah, you won't often need to worry about that. Just because Nintendo's teaser trailer for the Revolution controller shows people making wide, arching movements to play games doesn't mean that's a universal rule. Actually, you're going to find that you oftentimes barely need to twist or turn the controller at all to make dramatic movements in Revolution games. Since this is true, and I suspect a customizable sensitivity setting, developers could theoretically allow for wide-open movements in single-player games, and simply increase sensitivity for multiplayer bouts so that minimal motion is needed for on-screen mechanisms.

The Revolution Before Revolution?
Hi, IGN Rev. Just wanted to know your take on something.
I recently saw a commercial for a "true golf" game or something that used a glove to keep track of your swing, something I would thing we'd see first on the revolution. Funny thing is, it's avaliable on all systems except for the Gamecube. Will products like these steal away Revolution's thunder? Especially since they're toting the whole "most realistic video game" motto?
Matt responds: Right. You're thinking of Real World Golf from Mad Catz. It's an interesting device, but I don't think it will steal any of Revolution's thunder. I actually had the chance to try it out a few weeks ago. Basically, you connect a glove and cable to each arm, which measure the motion of your swing as you play the game. It feels a bit primitive, but it works so long as you're standing in the right direction. The problem with the setup, at least for me, is that it feels like a gimmick, even if the functionality is satisfactory. That very few games are yet available for the device is another issue. But let's pretend there were dozens of titles coming out for it. Revolution's free-hand style pointer still offers greater precision and flexibility - plus, it actually looks cool.

Shell
Dear Matt, after seeing the "revolutionary" controlly for the new Nintendo console I was both exited and dissapointed. While the aspects of different gameplay can be offered with this style of controller. I worry about the change to playing games like Resident Evil, or games which seem to me would require a normal style controller. My question is, does nintendo have plans to release a normal style controller with its new controller?
Matt responds: Yeah, Nintendo has announced that the free-hand style pointer can be placed in a traditional "shell" that functions similarly to a Wave Bird. Third parties who lack the imagination or the funds to do a proper job with their port can take the easy way out use the shell. Nintendo has unfortunately not yet released any official screenshots of what the shell might look like. But because we're obsessed, several months ago we designed our own mock-up of how it may work. I've provided the image below to refresh your memory.

Colors
Hey Matt, I love the site and I have been a reader since ign64.com. First off I wanted to commend you on giving the specs about the system, I just wished you focused more on the differences between the X-box's processor and the Rev's while showing the similarities between them. I understand theat you do not have enough info to go into the details but just enough to show the readers the way these processors calculate code.
Well anyway, my question is since the Tokyo Game Show, nintendo has been showing off the white system and not the black one. Do you think the system will launch with the black one or the white one? It really doesn't matter to me but I was really lovin' the black one.
P.S. Which color would you like them to release with?
Matt responds: I think it might just launch in two colors: black and white. These are really the two colors Nintendo has chosen for the system time and again. However, supposing it comes down to a single color, I really think white could win out. White was, as you know, Nintendo's choice to spotlight both the controller and the console at Tokyo Game Show, and it was again used at the Game Developers Conference last month. Plus, Apple is riding high on white and Nintendo has gone out of its way to compare itself to the company. On top of everything else, DS Lite recently launched in Japan - in white, not black.

Star Wars
I can't be the first person to think of this, but is there any chance there won't be a Star Wars game on Rev. with first-person light saber play? This seems like it would fulfill the dreams of a lot of us star wars nerds (not to mention sell a lot of systems) and is sort of a no-brainer after seeing the controller, yet I haven't heard anything about it. Did I miss something? What is Factor 5 working on currently?
Great Site
Chad
Matt responds: I completely agree. I think that a Star Wars light-saber game for Revolution is inevitable. Unfortunately, Factor 5 won't be making it. The company is developing a first-party PlayStation 3 game called Lair. It has dragons and looks pretty cool. I wouldn't be surprised if a studio like Pandemic started in on a Star Wars Revolution title for LucasArts at some point in the future, though. This is not a confirmation or a vague hint from me - just speculation based on the fact that Pandemic seems pretty fond of Revolution and has a good working relationship with LucasArts. As an aside, I wouldn't expect any LucasArts Revolution titles at E3 2006, if I were you.
