There are a couple of ways to tap in to the camera, I chose to connect directly at the shutter release button.
The first piece that needs to be removed is the bottom plate, followed by the front cover that surrounds the lens mount. (there is a hidden screw under the manual/Auto focus switch).
Next would be the back piece, which also requires disconnecting the flexible circuit strip that connects it to the circuit board on the bottom of the camera, then the left side panel. You need to follow this sequence because the edges of these parts overlay each other.
Next step is to remove the right side panel and carefully move the top cover out of the way. Note there is a screw that will also need to be removed from inside the battery compartment in order to release the top cover. Notice I said move the top cover out of the way. That's because there are several very thin wires that are connected directly to other parts of the camera and can easily be damaged.
Once the top cover has been moved out of the way you can use a meter to find the three necessary connections on the shutter release button. The shutter button itself is a simple affair with only four contacts, of which only three are used, which consist of a common ground, focus/metering, shutter release.
Route three thin wires from the shutter release button to the left side of the camera so it exits at the empty cavity between the power and video jacks. I routed mine under the flash housing and down the side next to the lens release button, then through open cavities to the final destination.
At this point it is simply a matter of connecting an appropriate jack to the wires and carefully insulating the assembly, then glue or epoxy it to the board that contains the power and video jacks. Then carefully line up and drill a hole on the left cover plate.
The only real "gottcha" that kind of threw me off a bit is the flexible circuit strip that connects the bottom circuit board and back LCD plate. Be careful when reconnecting everything to make sure it is securely in place, otherwise the camera will not even turn on.
