Thank you for contacting AMD's Technical Service Center. I certainly
understand your point. However, refinements in the manufacturing
process sometimes lead to multiple versions of the part as in the case
with the A and B versions of the T-bred. While I understand that this
can lead to some confusion over part identification, from a performance
standpoint, both A and B versions will functionally be the same. In
other words, as long as both parts are setup within published specs,
they will offer the same performance. If two unmarked boxes were side
by side with one being an A version part and the other a B version, you
would not be able to tell them apart. So for the end consumer, it
should not make any difference. You can purchase either part and you
should not see any difference in performance.
Your assumption on the date code is correct, that does mean week 35 of
02. However, the letters are confidential information that is not
available to the general public. Therefore, we are uanable to provide
you with this information. Again, the only way to tell what part you
have is by running CPUID to see if you have family 680 or 681.
I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but it is all I can
provide. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact
me.
