Oude HDD recoveren, linux usb boot werkt niet

Hallo

Ik heb in mijn "bak met oude hardware zoals iedereen heeft" een oude laptop SATA HDD gevonden.
Hier staat mogelijk iets op wat ik al heel lang kwijt ben.

Nu heb ik een SATA -> USB kabel.
Maar, ik ben bang dat Windows dingen wil gaan doen zodra ik hem aan mijn desktop hang.

Ik wil eigenlijk booten in Linux en van daaruit de HDD benaderen, en nog liever er eerst een complete image van trekken zodat ik 100% zeker niks kwijt raak.


Beiden kan met een bootable ubuntu of een (ook linux based) clonezilla stickje.
Dus, ubuntu-24.04.3 iso gedownload, met rufus een stick klaar gemaakt, boot en .... Welcome to GRUB! -> zwart scherm -> reboot -> repeat...
Clonezilla (clonezilla-live-3.3.0-33-amd64) hangt in ieder geval op een foutmelding: Error: /boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found.
Dat klopt, op de stick is het pad ook /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/normal.mod.
Op de stick het pad wijzigen leidt er toe dat de pc helemaal niet meer de stick als bootable detecteert.

Mijn desktop is op basis van een AMD 3400G met een B450 moederbord met EUFI

Stap 1, probeer andere stick.

Inderdaad eens een andere (nieuwe) stick gebruiken wil wel eens helpen.
Of als je er meer tijd aan wil besteden met diskpart de USB eens helemaal leeggooien

Maar meestal werkt een nieuwe USB wel gelijk uit het doosje.

Probeer eventueel SystemRescue, daar zit ook ddrescue in voor als de disk eventueel eigenwijs is.

Andere stick, volledige format en Clonezilla .zip direct uitgepakt naar de stick, hij startte op.
Maar... Clonezilla heeft er geen zin in:

Ik wil wel echt een bit-by-bit image van de HDD maken.

Nu een andere, grotere stick proberen om er via ubuntu dan maar direct naar toe te gaan...

Probeer voor linux images eens Balena Etcher of Win32 disk imager. Ik heb daar betere ervaringen mee dan met Rufus, wat vooral goed werkt voor Windows images.
