Detailed Problem Description:
A week ago my Zen Micro (6GB) had some odd display errors. After
looking around on the official creative forums it seemed that updating
or at least reloading my firmware might fix it. First I tried to upgrade
my regular firmware (v1.11.01) to version 2.21.02 (with playforsure,
etc). This seemed to go well (it made my ZM restart a few times) until
about 70%, where it stalled for a good 5 minutes. Eventually I figured
it must've crashed and clicks the 'Close' button on the firmware
installer (note: not the 'X'). When my Zen booted up it greeted me with
a 'Firmware Problem'. After looking around the creative forums some more
I found that I could chose 'Reload Firmware' in Recovery Mode (which
contrary to its title, does not reload the firmware but actually just
removes it??). I chose to 'Reload Firmware', and now when I try to run
one of the firmware upgrades (downloaded from this website:
ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB_1_11_01.exe and ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_L16_2_21_02.exe),
they give me the following message (after choosing the language
'English'): "Your player is not connected, please connect your player."
My player IS connected however, in fact it gets recognized as a
"Creative Zen Micro" (at least in Windows Explorer), and works as a
removable drive, but the firmware updates always fail. And since it
currently has no real firmware, it only boot into Recovery Mode and does
not function as an mp3 player. I have tried this on my own computer
(windows xp pro sp2), a Compaq Evo N600c laptop running windows xp pro
sp2 and a computer running windows millenium. I tried Reload Firmware,
Reboot and Format several times on my player. Always with the same
outcome. How can I get a working firmware on my Zen Micro?
