1) SACD stream downmixed/converted to feed the 24bit/192Kb DAC
2) SACD stream fed to external DSD converter then direct to the 6 analog outputs
3) SACD stream converted internally then direct to the 6 analog outputs.
so which one do you think it could be?
Also, can the analog outputs handle the full frequency range of SACD (DC - 100KHz)
My interconnects and my amp can (but not the speakers).
SACD is converted internally and output through the analog outputs.
To output a SACDstream you need a faaaast interface like USB2 or IEEE1394. Not available on this player (and there are very little amps or rcvrs that can handle that).
Even if you are a purist than it improves your sound if you limit your amplifier at some 30 - 35 kHz. You do not want to know what most (also highend) amplifier do in intermodulation and amplification of digital noise coming out of a decoder. You can not actually hear it, but it generates subharmonics that may cause the sound to be harsh, especially in the highs.
However most very good decoders have "a brick wall" to prevent that kind of sh*t coming from their output.
The Philips outputs little noise from the analog, probably caused by crosstalk. However you can get rid of that by connecting through 50cm lowcost cable or 2m highend.
If you want better SACD: buy a SACD-special player.
Ehm, as a (former) purist I do not dig the sixchannel sound anyhow (except for movies), because its is fumbled and has little to do with the original .......
