RE Rebirth
What is Resident Evil Rebirth? You wrote that it was the biohazrd
package with all the games, Resident Evil Rebirth.
Peer responds: Just an alternate name some people have taken to calling the GameCube remake of BioHazard -- or Resident Evil, as it's known over here.
Burnout 2
I dunno if you've answered this before but I was looking at purchasing
a racing game for the Cube. I know there are not many out there but I was
wondering if there was any title that you recommended, based on your site
its seems Burnout 2 is the way to go. Comments?
-- Chris
Peer responds: Yep, unless you want to wait for EA's next Need for Speed game, which also looks pretty darn nice. Burnout 2 isn't the most challenging game out there, but it can't be beat for pure smashing fun. There isn't a better "car racing" game on GameCube, so it's not only a good choice, but really the only one that makes sense.
Hidden SC2 Characters
This has been bugging me for a some time. In last months issue of CUBE
Australia, they reported that not only will Gannondorf will be playable in
Soul Calibur 2 GC but also the "Wind Waker" Link will also be an unlockable
character. It showed an ingame picture of Gannondorf, though uncannily
resembling Gannondorf from the spaceworld demo, back in yesteryear, and a VS
screen shot of Cel-link. At first I was jumping up and down for joy, but
then it hit me, how come I haven't heard this anywhere else? So PLEASE, Lay
it down for me, is this gospel or bull*@#%.
-- Shujin
Peer responds: Do me a favor and take the magazine, close it, and look at the release month on the cover. Does it happen to say "APRIL" on there? Because there happens to be a day in that month where you can get away with all sorts of tomfoolery.
Punch Out??
Is Nintendo going to release Punch Out!!! in this century? Is one of
the best boxing games in video game history, is very strange that they
haven't said anything since the (last) Super Nes game, how can they neglect
such a great franchise. Can we hope for another installment in the future?
-- Rafael
Peer responds: The question is how much pull the franchise still has in a day and age where sports licenses pretty much rule everything in the boxing sport. Black and Bruised didn't do all that well on GameCube, so Nintendo might be shying away from creating a cartoonish boxing game for the platform. Hey, I'm all for it, but when we last talked to Nintendo neither Punch Out!! nor Kid Icarus were thought to be in the works.
GameSphere
I just read your article regarding Nintendos next console. It didn't
say much and it was short. But I'm getting the idea that Nintendo havnt
really sent out any dev-kits or anything. Publishes are making games for the
next consoles, as they have said. But I have a bad feeling the next Nintendo
console is not strongly included in this, if at all. What do you guys think?
-- monkeygrease
Peer responds: Well, that depends entirely on how aggressive Nintendo will be when it comes to third-party relations. Microsoft was in everybody's face with dev kits and exclusivity deals -- Nintendo was very conservative and, according to quite a few developers, downright "uninviting" prior to the GameCube's launch. I'm sure a serious shortage of kits had something to do with it. I'm hoping that Nintendo will turn over a new leaf with the next generation when it comes to third-parties, but it's simply way too early to make any sorts of guesses or assessments at this point.
Rush
Just wondering why in the name of all that's sane and good have we NOT
seen the next in the Rush series on the Gamecube? 2049 enhanced for Cube
would even be cool. Do you know anything about the Rush series for Game
Cube?
-- Ken
Peer responds: All the developers behind the series are gone. Midway closed down its Atari Games studio some time ago. Though a proof of concept existed for another Rush game, it never came to be. I'm sure Midway will eventually revive the Rush series, but it's exploring genres with games like The Suffering for now. Don't give up hope, Rush will be back some day.
GameCube on a PC monitor
Is it possible to display the GC using a PC monitor and speakers?
-- Stevo
Peer responds: Absolutely. What you're looking for is called an upscan converter. Our resident gearhead review one last year: XRGB-2plus.
Franhate
Ok, I've seen and heard of people hating Fran so much, and I don't
really know why. I thought that the IGNers liked him/her. Why do we hate
him/her? By the way, is Fran a guy or girl. Man I'm confused.
-- SlimRickyy
Peer responds: Nobody knows. He's either a bearded girl, or a girlish man. Why do we hate him so much? It's because of the way he talks. Seriously, download one of his Insider head-to-head articles and come back and tell us how you could possibly coexist in the same company with someone like that! Of course, there are some truly "weird" people on our messageboards who actually like him. It's a strange, strange world.
Futurama: Gone?
Okay, what happened? One day I'm lookin' at my wishlist and Futurama
is sittin' there smiling at me, the next its cancelled. Nooooooo! Is it
cancelled for every system, or just the only one I own? I was dreaming
about playing as Zoidberg, but now...shattered dreams. So why'd they do it?
Why do they make me suffer?
-- tomgator
Peer responds: Sorry, man. The GameCube version recently got the axe. The reason for the cancellation is simply that the publisher didn't want to take any chances and only release the game for the systems with the biggest US install bases.
GamePrism
I keep hearing about the Cube's successor and how it's going to come
out in 2005. Im very mad at this because i feel as though I bought my
Gamecube at the wrong time. I just bought it in November of 2002, and I at
least want 5 years out the cube, and now i know i won't. Is Nintendo going
to keep making software for the cube? or will they just look forward to
Cube's successor? Please Help!!!!
-- GCubeGamer
Peer responds: Don't worry, the GameCube will in fact not self-destruct in the year 2005. And if there's one thing I take with a grain of salt from Nintendo, then it's a console release date. As for software support, the number of games you'll see released on GameCube when the successor is available entirely depends on its success over the next few years. After all, PlayStation still saw plenty of game releases years after PS2 came out. The N64 was a bit of an exception to the rule since many publishers were just all too happy to dump the risky cartridge format. So quit worrying and remember that games don't suddenly get less fun just because a new console is out.
TimeSplitters 2
Its a little late, I know, but I have had no money because I am poor
but I wanted to know which game you think is better: Timesplitters 2 or Red
Faction 2? i played a little bit of RF2 and its pretty cool, but I haven't
had a chance to play TS2 yet.
Thanks
-- Bob
Peer responds: I prefer TimeSplitters 2. Red Faction 2 has a better story mode, but I really like TS2's controls and speed. If you're a GoldenEye fan, then the dam level alone is worth giving TS2 a shot. But the real attraction are the two-player co-op and four-player split-screen battles. The multiplayer mode kept us busy for a very long time. By the way, I recently brought out Nightfire again and played some three-player battles with some friends. I forgot how much fun that game was...
Nintendo acquisitions
Do you know if Nintendo has any plans to buy Factor 5, Treasure, or
even 3DO? Factor 5 and Treasure have made great games for Gamecube and 3DO
is now bankrupt, so do you think any of these will be bought?
-- 3DO
Peer responds: The chances of Nintendo buying 3DO are 0.0000024%. As much as the company has tried to refocus its energies and finally deliver quality games, the stigma that 3DO is synonymous with bad games is enough to keep most investors away. I truly hope Horsemen and some other projects like Eutechnyx SRS get picked up by other publishers, but I don't see anyone purchasing the leftovers. Factor 5 and Treasure are slightly better bets. The guys at F5 are such die-hard Nintendo fans, it's hard to understand why the Big "N" hasn't brought them in-house. Then again, why buy a company that's guaranteed to support your platform? Treasure, on the other hand, has a lot to prove. Yes, these guys were legends in the 16-bit days, but there've been just as many missteps recently as there have been true Treasure hits. Keep an eye on Wario World. If Nintendo likes what Treasure did with the grumpy anti-hero, we're expecting the relationship to become a lot tighter in the future.
Good bye for now.
