Nu, interessant voor al jullie tekenaars, een aantal tekentips. Deze komen van het StripSter forum.
RHYTHM-when designing, try to flow from shape to shape. use straights vs. curves. avoid the dreaded parallel lines and the tangents. try to use opposite forces to create interest, such as verticals opposing horizontals, arcs and hard edges.
SYMPLICITY- there is no reason to overcomplicate your design for the sake of ornamentation and being "artsy". being simple in your designs means to be uncomplicated and decisive, not uninspired. try to seek the clearest representation for what you are creating.
ASYMMETRY - your character shouldn't feel like it was made with a cookie cutter. let the poses you place them in be natural and counterbalanced. avoid putting your characters in poses that are exactly even, so that you could draw a line right down the middle of them and they would be exactly the same on both sides. let there be some uneveness, and variety of shape and pose.
DECISIVE DRAFTMANSHIP - be confident in your lines that you put down on the paper. if you don't know how to draw something (i.e. cowboy/western props, pirate sword, a pirate, baseball player, whatever), study the real thing and learn how to draw it. don't fake it. be bold in the shapes you choose and believe in the character that you are creating, because if you don't buy it, neither will the audience.
GESTURE WITHIN CHARACTER - when you're creating poses and gestures, think about the personality and physical limitations of the character. a young, little kid wouldn't move the same as a cranky, old goat. think about your character and who they are. let your poses describe their personality. if a picture is worth a thousand words, let your gestures tell stories.
VARIETY OF SHAPE - i know this is similar to asymmestry, but this is more about the shapes you choose. mix up the sizes and shapes within your design. try not to make everything the same. mix circles with rectangles, cylinders with spheres, big with tiny. the possibilities are endless. variety is the spice of design.
EXPLORATION - don't settle on your "first - pass - scribble - on - a - napkin - with - a - thick - marker - ruff " as the final image. keep drawing!!! explore as many different avenues of designs that you can. then when you feel like you've hit upon the answer, walk away from the drawing board for a few hours to a day. when you come back to your design, let your fresh eye be the judge . . . then just for the heck of it, throw another piece of paper over it for one last pass.
PERSONALITY- keep in mind at all times who the character is. let that be seen in your design. how old are they? do they eat a lot? are they sloppy? are they cute? fat? thin? hyper? cranky? sexy? bold? shy? use as many adjectives that you can to describe your character, this will help you get a handle on who they are and how they should look.
APPEAL - from the cutest furry animal to the vilest of villains, there is always some measure of appeal. you want your audience to be drawn to your character, and appreciate what they are seeing. whether it is a strong hero or a malicious villain, there must be a measure of appeal so that we will be interested in what they are doing. no matter what the idea is or the subject matter behind your design, if it isn't appealing in some way, it won't be well received. basically, appeal is the combination of all the design principles rolled into one little package . . . at least that's what they tell me.
ORIGINALITY - don't copy. you can and will be influenced by your peers, but always strive to be original and create your own style. if you want to flatter someone, imitate them. if you want to impress someone, be original. and if you want a good grade, leave the briefcase filled with unmarked bills on the corner by the pay phone.
Het zijn maar tips, maar het zijn wel goede tips.
