nieuws over de editor :
First news of the day relates to a much-discussed issue within the Vietcong community, and especially around the game’s official forums. Jarek could inform us that a “game editor” will be arriving which will let “modders” create/edit maps, characters and other parts of the game. Pterodon has been using professional modelling program such as 3D Studio Max, with specialized plug-ins. The Pterodon team is working hard in convincing Take2 to obtain a licence of gMAX for the users who do not have fully licensed versions of 3Dmax, but it all comes down to what Take2 wish to bundle with its game. In a second statement from Mr. Kolar, the Pterodon team would like to licence gMAX as a “primary modelling tool for MOD developers”.
It seems rather clear that there will be no editor in game CD released with the retail version, but rather as an update at a later time to accommodate the VC community to its fullest. Not only is this great news, but the Team Leader from Pterodon could also share that “the game also uses its own scripting language (in C syntax), which is planned to be presented for the users”. In easier terms this means that Pterodon has learned from fellow European game companies (Codemaster’s Operation Flashpoint among others) that letting users edit the games’ scripts is the way to go. This will open up a new world to the gamer, like scripting own missions, in game movies etc.
Jarek goes on to say that this tool is a “powerful one”, and that it can “call routines” from the engine while enabling you to edit scripts both for single-player, as well as multiplayer missions. While the Pterodon team would like to publish the editor as soon as possible, it’s up to Take2 when it will be released to the general public, and it may take “several months” if we should believe Mr. Kolar.
