Welkom bij deel 3 van het Doctor Who topic Aangezien ik pre-Eccleston Doctor Who nooit gezien heb, heb ik alleen content uit de nieuwe seizoenen genomen. Ik weet dat er karakters missen, maar het zijn er zoveel, dat ik niet alles/iedereen kon opnemen in de topicstart. Mochten jullie nog op-/aanmerkingen hebben, dan hoor ik dat graag. Je kunt hier een berichtje achter laten, maar je mag me ook wel DM-en. Ik ben ook regelmatig te vinden in #tv op irc.tweakers.net.

The Doctor is a Time Lord, an extraterrestrial from the planet Gallifrey, who travels through time and space in an internally vast time machine called the TARDIS. The Doctor explores the universe at random, using his extensive knowledge of science, technology and history (from his perspective) to avert whatever crisis he encounters unless it is a fixed point in time and space. As a Time Lord, the Doctor has the ability to regenerate his body when near death. The serial The Deadly Assassin established that a Time Lord can regenerate twelve times, for a total of thirteen incarnations. To date, the Doctor has fully gone through this process and its resulting after-effects on ten occasions, with each of his incarnations having his own quirks and abilities but otherwise sharing the memories and experience of the previous incarnations. The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) Eccleston portrays the ninth such Doctor, a brooding and melancholic war survivor after a Time War in which he wiped out both his race and the enemy Daleks. His first companion is Rose, whom he plucks from obscurity on the planet Earth and to whom he grows increasingly attached. As a character, the Ninth Doctor is less of a central heroic figure than an enabler, encouraging his companions and other people he meets to act upon their more positive impulses. The Doctor's ninth incarnation was perhaps the most gritty, and informal, masking a lonely, guilt-ridden and melancholic personality with a jovial, witty, forthright and almost manic exterior. He would often make jokes in the face of danger, but then become grim and serious when on his own. He also tended to be fatalistic at times, to the point of near-panic. Despite being impatient with humans, whom he often referred to as "stupid apes", the Ninth Doctor was far more tactile with, and reliant upon, his human companions than previous incarnations. He was notably both sentimental and emotional, especially where his closest friend, Rose, was concerned. The Thenth Doctor (David Tennant) Unlike his immediate predecessor, who was plagued by melancholy due to his actions during the Last Great Time War, this incarnation was much more outgoing and genial, a demeanor that hid the "survivor's guilt" that had plagued him since the war. Throughout his life, however, the weight became much more pronounced, haunted by companions lost, enemies believed long-dead and events that threatened the fabric of time itself. This incarnation met his end after he absorbed a huge quantity of nuclear radiation whilst saving the life of his friend, Wilfred Mott, leading to his regeneration into his next incarnation. The tenth incarnation was happy to have sideburns and to have more hair than his previous incarnation, whose hair was very close-cut. Though he initially seemed disappointed at not being ginger, he would come to take great pride in his dark brown hair, wearing it in various ways throughout his adventures. For the early minutes of his life, the Doctor continued to wear the clothes his previous incarnation had on at the time of his regeneration. After arriving in London, however, he donned a set of pajamas and a dressing gown, which he kept until the end of his first adventure, when he chose a new outfit. This incarnation had several variations of dress. He had two main suits, a dark brown suit with blue pinstripes and a blue suit with red pinstripes. The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) The eleventh Doctor is a quick-tempered but compassionate man whose youthful appearance is at odds with his more discerning and world-weary temperament. The Eleventh Doctor spends most of his first full episode, "The Eleventh Hour" in the tattered remains of the Tenth Doctor's costume. Near the end of "The Eleventh Hour" the Doctor acquires his clothes from the hospital's changing-room, raiding the lockers for a new outfit before his final confrontation with the episode's antagonists, defending the 'theft' on the grounds that he just saved Earth for "the millionth time". The Doctor's outfit is a brown tweed jacket with elbow patches, bow tie, braces, rolled up trousers and black boots. He frequently refers to his affection for bow ties, often proclaiming "Bow ties are cool.". In The Big Bang, the Doctor briefly dons a fez, stating, "Fezzes are cool", however the fez is destroyed by River Song and Amy Pond before the end of the episode. The TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space) is a time machine and spacecraft and is the Doctor's main mode of transport (and time travel). A TARDIS is a product of the advanced technology of the Time Lords. A properly maintained and piloted TARDIS can transport its occupants to any point in time and space. The interior of a TARDIS is much larger than its exterior, which can blend in with its surroundings through the ship's "chameleon circuit". In the series, the Doctor pilots an unreliable, obsolete Type 40 TARDIS, whose chameleon circuit is faulty, leaving it locked in the shape of a 1950s-style London police box after a visit to London in 1963. In "Journey's End", the Doctor states that the reason for the previous bumpy navigation was that the TARDIS is meant to have six pilots and it is also stated in "The Time of Angels" that the Doctor pilots the TARDIS with the brakes on (hense the classic noise). When we meet the ninth Doctor, the TARDIS looks as follows: A new TARDIS made its debut in the Eleventh Doctor's first episode, and looks as follows: Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) The first companion in the new series. Rose is introduced as a working class shop assistant from London, introduced alongside her own supporting cast in the form of her mother Jackie Tyler and her boyfriend Mickey Smith. Rose is unique in that she is the first companion whose immediate family and/or a close friend knew of her travels with the Doctor while they occurred. Rose cares deeply about, and loves, the Doctor, romantically as is proved in the series four finale. When we last saw her, she was on a parallel universe with a 'clone' of the tenth Doctor. Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) Martha is the second companion in the series, replacing Rose Tyler. After well over a year of service at his side, Martha parts from the Doctor's company as she cannot bear her own love for him. After returning to life on Earth, becoming engaged and finishing her medical degree, Martha finds a newfound level of independence when she is recruited into the paranormal military organisations UNIT. Having faced the end of the world single-handedly during her time with the Doctor, Martha is recognised for her skills both in the field and in medicine. Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) Donna begins as an outspoken middle aged Londoner, whose view of the universe is a very small place. Her very human perspective saves the Doctor's life when they first meet, and persuades him to act more compassionately and make exceptions to the rules in order to save individual lives; in return, Donna becomes a more worldly and heroic individual. From humble beginnings, it is Donna who saves the universe in the fourth series' conclusion, although tragically at the cost of the memories of her travels with the Doctor, leaving her, once again, largely the woman she was before she met him. Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) An orphan, Amy Pond meets the Doctor in the first episode of the 2010 series. At Amy's request, the Doctor investigates a crack in her wall that he discovers is a damaged point of time and space. As he attempts to make repairs, he is interrupted by the cloister bell from his damaged TARDIS, telling him to return before it vanishes into the time vortex. The Doctor promises Amy that he will return in '5 minutes', but due The TARDIS' erratic state, he does not reunite with Amy until 12 years later, when she is 19. After their reunion, in which Amy helps the Doctor save the earth, The Doctor takes the newly repaired TARDIS on a trip to the moon and back to 'run her in'. While he is gone it is 2 years before he returns for her, and invites her to travel with him. Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri) Jackie, a single mother, her husband Pete Tyler having died in 1987, is a resident of present-day London and the mother of the Ninth and Tenth Doctor's companion Rose Tyler, she was a recurring character on the programme from 2005 to 2006. She first appeared in the 2005 series episode "Rose" and lived with Rose in a council flat on the Powell Estate. Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke) Mickey is introduced as the boyfriend of Rose Tyler, and a recurring character on the programme. He first appears in the 2005 series episode "Rose." Later, he briefly joins the TARDIS crew in the 2006 series, before reappearing again in the 2008 series, having broken up with Rose and matured into a much more heroic character. He goes on to wed Martha Jones, and continues to involve himself with alien contact. Face of Boe (Struan Rodger) The Face of Boe, resembling in appearance a gigantic, wrinkly human-like head. The Face merely grunted during his appearance in "The End of the World", communicated telepathically in "New Earth" and "Gridlock", and spoke for the first and last time in the latter. It is stated in "New Earth" that he is thought to be billions of years old, but responded to a statement of that with a leading question concerning the impossibility of such an age. It was suggested in "Last of the Time Lords" that the Face of Boe is, in fact, Jack Harkness. The Ood (Various) The Ood are a fictional alien species with telepathic abilities. The Ood are humanoid in appearance with coleoid tentacles on the lower portions of their faces. They require a translator device, a small sphere connected to their "mouths" by a tube, to facilitate speech between them and humans. Whilst the Ood initially appear as a slave race who become hostile, over the course of the stories they are shown to be a naturally peaceful race, and by The End of Time have progressed to becoming an advanced civilization. Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) An investigative journalist, Sarah Jane was a regular companion of the Third and Fourth incarnations of the Doctor, on the programme from 1973 to 1976, and returns in the Fifth Doctor story "The Five Doctors" (1983), the story Dimensions In Time (1993), and most recently in the episodes "School Reunion" (2006), "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End" (2008) and "The End of Time" (2010) alongside the Tenth Doctor, and other companions of his era. One of the Doctor's longest serving companions, she appears as a regular in 18 stories over four seasons of the classic series and four episodes of the revived series. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) Jack begins as a time traveller and former con man from the 51st century. In contrast to the Doctor, Jack is a man of action, more willing to apply a hands-on solution to a problem. As a consequence of his death and resurrection in the 2005 series finale of Doctor Who, the character becomes immortal. On Earth, Jack becomes a member of Torchwood, a British organisation dedicated to combating alien threats, becoming its leader over a century later. Jenny (Georgia Moffett) Jenny is the daughter of the tenth incarnation of the Doctor, a product of altered DNA extracted from a tissue sample from his hand. Jenny was introduced by writer Stephen Greenhorn. Moffett herself is the real-life daughter of the actor Peter Davison who portrayed the Doctor's fifth incarnation. Hopefully, she will one day return as a companion. River Song (Alex Kingston) Within the series' narrative, River Song is an experienced future companion of the Doctor. Because River and the Doctor are both time travellers, their adventures together are largely experienced out-of-sync in their individual chronologies. River Song is a mysterious archaeologist and convicted murderer who shares a close relationship with the Doctor. Significantly, she knew the Doctor's true name, which he told her at some point in his future for reasons as of yet undisclosed. Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) Rory was shown to be a nurse at the local hospital and was in a relationship with Amy Pond. Two years later, Amy agrees to become the Doctor's companion on the day before their wedding. Rory travels with the Doctor and Amy until he is shot dead and then absorbed by a crack in time and space, erasing him from existence and from Amy's memories. He appears to returned as a Roman soldier in 102 A.D., before discovering that he is a plastic duplicate with Rory's memories. He fights his transformation into a plastic soldier, but unwillingly shoots Amy. In saving the universe, the Doctor creates a new timeline where Rory never died. Rory, human once more, marries Amy; they rejoin the Doctor aboard the TARDIS. Daleks Daleks are cyborgs from the planet Skaro, created by the scientist Davros as the last and greatest weapon in the war against the Thals. They are mutated Kaleds integrated within a tank-like or robot-like mechanical casing. The resulting creatures are a powerful race bent on universal conquest and domination, utterly without pity, compassion or remorse. Various storylines portray them as having had every emotion removed except hate, leaving them with a desire to purge the Universe of all non-Dalek life. Occasionally they are shown as experiencing other emotions, primarily fear, although such occurrences are rare. Dalek Caan Dalek Caan was originally second in command to Dalek Sec. Caan ruthlessly overthrew Sec and took his position as leader of the cult after Sec became the Human Dalek. When Sec decided to give the Human-Daleks emotions, Caan intervenes, altering the process to make them 100% Dalek. Caan overthrew Sec and took command of the Cult of Skaro. After the Tenth Doctor spliced his own DNA into the Human-Daleks, Caan destroyed the hybrid species. Dalek Caan reappears in "The Stolen Earth". An emergency temporal shift used to escape from Manhattan somehow brought him into the time-locked Time War, allowing him to rescue Davros, the creator of the Daleks. During this rescue mission, Caan "died a thousand times" and most of his casing was badly damaged. Dalek Sec Dalek Sec was the leader of the cult and of the Dalek attack during the Battle of Canary Wharf against the Cybermen. The Cult of Skaro also worked on experiments designed to evolve Dalek-kind into a new form. The Cult recruited the power-hungry human servant Mr Diagoras. Sec turned against the concept of Dalek genetic purity, viewing survival as more important and seeing human DNA as holding useful attributes, as the humans thrive as a species whereas the Daleks had become nearly extinct. Using himself and Mr Diagoras as the test for the Final Experiment, he was transformed into the first Hybrid Dalek. While in his new body, he began to feel humanity for the first time in his existence, being motivated by emotions rather than the traditional Dalek drive to conquer. Motivated by these, Sec asked the Doctor to help him create more hybrids using human bodies. Davros Davros is an archenemy of the Doctor and is the creator of the Doctor's deadliest enemies, the Daleks. Davros is a scientist from the planet Skaro whose people, the Kaleds, were engaged in a bitter thousand-year war of attrition with their enemies, the Thals. His chair would become an obvious inspiration for his eventual design of the Dalek. Davros's voice, like those of the Daleks, is electronically distorted. His manner of speech is generally soft and contemplative, but when angered or excited he is prone to ranting outbursts that resemble the hysterical, staccatissimo speech of his creations. Davros is a megalomaniac who believes that through his creations, the Daleks, he can become the supreme being and ruler of the universe. He is a brilliant, ruthless scientist who has demonstrated mastery of robotics, metallurgy, chemistry, artificial intelligence, cloning, genetic engineering, biology, physics, military tactics and cybernetics. Cybermen The Cybermen are a race of cyborgs who are amongst the most persistent enemies of the Doctor. Cybermen were originally a wholly organic species of humanoids originating on Earth's twin planet Mondas that began to implant more and more artificial parts into their bodies as a means of self-preservation. This led to the race becoming coldly logical and calculating, with every emotion all but deleted from their minds. The Cybermen also have a rivalry with the Daleks. Weeping Angels The Weeping Angels are hunters. They resemble the stone angel statues that can be seen in some Christian cemeteries. When they are not being observed by another sentient being, they can move very quickly and silently, but when they sense they are being observed they instinctively become "quantum-locked", occupying a single position in space. In this state, they are frozen and indestructible. They cannot suppress this reflex. If two Weeping Angels were to look at each other, they would be trapped in stone form forever. To prevent this, they often cover their eyes when freezing - this makes them look like they are weeping. The Master When Doctor Who was revived in 2005, it was initially stated in the episode "Dalek" that all the Time Lords except the Doctor were killed in a Time War with the Daleks. The Doctor stated that if other Time Lords had survived, he would have been able to sense them. The Master did however reappear as the main antagonist of the third series; his return is foreshadowed in "Gridlock", when the Face of Boe gives the Tenth Doctor a message before dying: "You are not alone". In "The Sound of Drums", it is revealed that the Time Lords resurrected the Master to serve as the ultimate front line soldier in the Time War. After the Dalek Emperor took control of "The Cruciform", he fled the war in fear, ignorant of its outcome. He disguised himself as a human through the same process the Doctor himself used in "Human Nature"—a Chameleon Arch that stores his Time Lord nature and memories in a fob watch and allows him to become biologically human. Complimenten voor de openingspost!

Inderdaad is het nu wachten tot kerst, hopelijk wordt het daarna een stuk beter dan de eerste 5 afleveringen. Daar zitten maar (persoonlijk) 2 goede tussen (de eerste en de nummer 5). Een samenhang tussen die afleveringen heb ik ook nog niet echt kunnen ontdekken zoals dat voorgaande seizoenen gebeurde.

Damn, jammer dat die niet gefilmd is. Echt die schrijvers doen het erom. Eerst Sherlock al bij de Seizoen2 sluiter. Hier deze 2 die springen.. Merlin in de tussentijd is ook behoorlijk aan het meevallen, in de zin van ik kan niet zeuren naar de schrijvers toe, het is ineens een awesome serie ook.

Maar Dr Who is tot nu toe ook geweldig dit seizoen. Maar nu dus een jong hulpje voor hem? Je zou bijna slecht gaan denken Nee kijk uit naar de dag dat het weer verder gaat!

Voor de eerste post is het misschien beter om Rory ook bij de companions te zetten, want in seizoen 6 (en ook eerste helft seizoen 7) was hij een officiele companion.

Guys, November is the eleventh month and there have been eleven Doctors. IT’S LIKE IT’S BEEN ORDAINED!!!!
This week, we’ve gotten a little bit more stuff for which to be excited. Big Finish, the people who do the range of Doctor Who audio plays featuring five of the previous Doctors and a slew of old companions, have announced that they will be celebrating the show’s 50th Anniversary with a 100-minute, multi-Doctor extravaganza entitled “The Light at the End,” which will feature Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, and Paul McGann (the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Doctors, respectively) teaming up to fight everybody’s favorite jerk, the Master, played by Geoffrey Beevers, who portrayed the evil Time Lord in 1981′s “The Keeper of Traken.”
To help, each Doctor will also have a companion; Leela (Louise Jameson), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), Peri (Nicola Bryant), Ace (Sophie Aldred), and Charley Pollard (India Fisher).
Here’s a blurb from the press released from Big Finish.com:
“We wanted to do a proper, fully-fledged multi-Doctor story for this very special occasion,” says writer, director and executive producer Nicholas Briggs, “and it’s wonderful that all the surviving Doctors threw themselves behind the project so enthusiastically. Niet helemaal de Doctor, wel een beetje. Donna zorgde ervoor dat de afgehakte hand van de Doctor min of meer een nieuw lichaam liet aangroeien, een lichaam dat door het contact met Donna gedeeltelijk menselijk was, hij had maar 1 hart en wordt net als een mens gewoon oud. Die versie is met Rose naar het andere universum gegaan terwijl de Echte doctor hier lekker heen en weer bleef rennen.

Donna zorgde ervoor dat de afgehakte hand van de Doctor min of meer een nieuw lichaam liet aangroeien, een lichaam dat door het contact met Donna gedeeltelijk menselijk was, hij had maar 1 hart en wordt net als een mens gewoon oud. Die versie is met Rose naar het andere universum gegaan terwijl de Echte doctor hier lekker heen en weer bleef rennen.
