37pfl9732d is binnen! Hieronder mijn in het engels geschreven snelle review.
This TV set ROCKS!
It is my first LCD.. so take my ravings with a bit of salt if you're an LCD veteran, but I am truly very happy with this set.
The design is absolutely gorgeous. From the nice black finish of the frame to the small mirror-surfaced edge of the frame to the solid looking metallic 'soundframe'. I'm a huge Apple design fan and I have to say, if Apple made TV's, they would look like this. Wonderful! It also looks really solid, no cheap feel to the materials.
Setting the TV up is a breeze, within 5 minutes you've got all your settings and channels detected and you're ready to roll. First thing I noticed is that using my analogue cable signal really does not do the TV justice. In my case some channels were barely watch-able, so I decided to focus on the digital stuff first and get a Humax IR FOX C Digital Cable Tuner the next day
The picture quality of digital sources on this TV is absolutely terrific. I'm not sure which technology does the most work (although I was already addicted to Natural Motion on my CRT) but images are exceptionally clear and the color definition is superb. The only thing I noticed is that the black isn't fully black. It's always a bit blue-ish. I've read a lot about this being a problem with LCD's in general, but since it is my first non-CRT TV it is something that I notice while watching.
I've toyed around with the settings a lot, and quite frankly, it's hard to make the picture look bad. The device seems to store some settings per channel (or input?) while others are stored globally. I haven't been able to figure out what the logic is yet. But it's great to be able to have different contrast and color settings for TV versus HDMI connected devices.
I've tested my 37pfl9732d with the following devices:
- Nintendo Wii (Component)
While the Wii doesn't do proper HDTV signals, it is capable of outputting a 480p widescreen signal. It looks better than having a 480i signal and from a distance it looks just fine. Up close it start to look a bit jaggy, but I don't think it's that much of an issue.
Xbox360 (Component)
Played the BioShock demo on my 360 and it is absolutely gorgeous! The opening sequence has you swimming through water which is partly on fire. The Ambilight feature enhances this scene considerably, with the whole room turning yellow when you look at the flames.
Since the 37pfl9732d only has one Component input, I had to switch the two game consoles

For me that's definitely a downside.
MacMini (DVI -> HDMI cable)
I want to use my MacMini as something if a media center, or more a TV show center. I've set it up so it automatically downloads new shows when they are released and then I can use FrontRow with the Apple Remote to watch the shows. Seems to work fine, although there are some weird issues I need to fix.
It's connected with a DVI -> HDMI cable, and the picture is crystal clear of course. For some reason the MacMini only displays an interlaced images for 1080. It actually communicates a 1080p signal to the TV but it still uses visible interlacing, very annoying. I also can't seem to force the display to NTSC, since that's greyed out. Will look into it and let you know if I solve it.
Humax IR FOX C Digital Cable Tuner (Scart)
This cheap tuner (90 euros) was reviewed pretty well on consumer sites, so I decided to pick it up. It's a really big difference in picture quality from watching analogue TV. It still varies from channel to channel, but overall it's much much better.
Some random observations:
- Changing channels with my Humax Tuner takes less time than changing channels on the TV itself (with the old analogue signal). The TV isn't very slow, but it's not very fast either.
- Ambilight can be turned on while the TV is off!
- Digital Audio Out and In use Coax connections. Weird, since all my equipment uses Optical connections. Something to consider!
- Remote is very nicely designed, easy to use in combination with the onscreen menus as well.
- No ghosting noticed whatsoever!
- Natural Motion artifacts are extremely rare, only noticed it on screen edge once.
Any Questions?
Oftewel, nog vragen?
