Question # 1
Expanding
Are there any plans to expand with another similar game with the same game engine?
Yes and no, we certainly intend to launch similar games but of course they need their own game engine, otherwise they would be different games..;) Some code can of course be reused, but most would be new.
Question # 2
Webservices for "third part developers" (Technical question)
There are many people who develop applications for Hattrick users (i.e. HAM).
In common for most of these applications are that they need to do some kind of scanning of your html-pages. Its a very inacurrate and server-demanding way to make good hattrick-applications. It would be so cool if you would start making some webservices (or similar) for us developers. It will be so much easier for us - and it will take A LOT of stress of both your CPU-load and your bandwith. I predict you'll see a lot of very cool and useful 3. part applications if you'd start making it a little easier for us :-) Any plans to make some developer-friendly enhancements in hattrick?
This is a hot potato, we see the potential in this but so far our experiments have not been very successful, meaning they have created a lot of extra work like server load and third party support (or lack of it, which can be a burden as well). I cant really say what will happen with the third party developers. The potential fo cool applications is mind-boggling, of course. Maybe some sort of very standardized web services could be a good solution. But that´s very far from a promise, just a thought..;)
Question # 3
Unrealistic tactics.
I'd like hattrick to be as realistic as possible. So many people don't like that we can use unrealistic tactics with succes. For example you can play without wingers with great succes. I'd like to see the teams using unrealistic tactics to be punished in some way.. (much lower ht-ratings, greater deal of confusion etc. etc.) Any plans to get rid of unrealistic tactics ? or change them ?
Well, we have done some changes recently that addresses “unrealistic” formations. And there will be some new tactics in the next version of Hattrick, which has been delayed because of the various difficulties we run into during autumn. The big picture is rather something like this: I don´t see realism as a goal in itself, playability and balance between complexity and accessability is a must, but realism is not. We can´t make the perfect simulator, and even if we could, it would be a different game altogether. The essence of Hattrick is a blend of many things, and we must keep that balance intact.
Question # 4
Transferlist Autobid
www.qxl.dk has a well working autobid feature. Hattrick is supposed to playable with only a small investment of time. Finding good players to an acceptable price is really difficult without much time - (and without the freedom to login when a deadline on an interesting player is closing). It would be cool to have autobid. Any plans?
Nope, no plans there. Autobids would of course be plausible, but it would take out part of the please and urgency of the game – having to ”be there”, so I don´t think it´s a very good idea, actually.
Question # 5
International cup
Are there any plans to develop a international cup like the Champions league or the UEFA cup?
Yes, there ar plans and it´s something that we will probably do eventually, but there are no dates set today. This would be a perfect little feature to start developing when we find that big name, generous sponsor we have always been dreaming about…!
Question # 6
Midtfield The midtfield is very importent in HT. Some might even say unrealistically high. Are there any plans for smoothing out the importance of the midtfield?
Yes and no. Of course it´s something we keep in mind when making any changes to the game engine, but we don´t see the mentioned midfield importance as a problem in itself, really. If anything, we would like to add more possible tactics (not just formations, but playing “styles” as well) and that would be one way to make the game less static.
Question # 7
Transferlist
Are there any plans to make the GUI easier to access when you want to search for a transfered player? You could use pull down menus. With that managers won’t have to access each country in the left side of the screen each time a new search is started.
No, there are no plan for this.
Question # 8
Show match
In Global conf. There has been some writing about a show match between Sweden and the rest of the world. A kind of, well, Ryders Cup, just with fewer Americans! Any thoughts?
Heh, that would be kind of cool. I´ll talk it over with the others...
Question # 9
Test Teams
Any official comments on the use of test teams in HT?. Especially about the teams that works as a nest for developing strong national team players.
They shouldn´t be used that way, and they won´t be used that way any more. The debate that arose around this incident was largely misguided and unnecessarily “paranoic”, but at least it forced us to talk the subject over and to decide on guidelines for what test teams can do or don´t do.
Question # 10
Training
With the game engine you use now only a small part of the team actually gets training. Will that change? Maybe into something where all gets the training but only a few benefits more.
Nope, no plans there either. BTW, it would kill server performance, so I guess we won´t ever implement something like that.
Question # 11
Coach
Now you draw a coach. Are the any thoughts about changing that into a system where coaches can be hired like a player? Then everybody can bet on a contract, where salary, duration, bonus and league might influence the outcome.
The coach system will be changed, but it will not work like with ordinary players. Can´t say anymore on the subject, except that it will change eventually.
Question # 12
New championships
Any thought on making a European tournament as well as an American and oceanic one?
Not really, we think Club championships are more interesting, and when we develop more competitions it will probably be in that area (not that there are any plans for that, either)
Question # 13
General comments Do you have any other comments for your Danish fans? Anything at all that might be interesting concerning Hattrick.
Danish beer built Hattrick..;) Seriously, both Bjorn and I come from Scania so we have spent a good deal of time in Denmark and we are happy that the game is catching on there as well!
I think 2003 will be a very exciting year in many ways, we will have to deal with the continued growth of course but there will also be time for a lot of improvements in the game and a lot of fun stuff in the community. The future looks bright..;)
