http://oege.ie.hva.nl/~ad...?item=articles_groundloopHow to eliminate a ground loop
Where possible:
- Ground all appliances through the same wall/cable TV socket;
- Don't use extension cords;
- Use high quality audio/video cables (as short as possible);
- Don't lay audio/video cables parallel to mains cables;
- Use high quality plugs;
- Don't place high power consuming machines(dish washers, washing machines etc.) near your audio/video installation.
If this is not possible for you, you may consider a galvanic separation of some devices. To do this, we first need to find the source of the ground loop.
Cable TV
The most probable cause of a ground loop is the cable TV. Testing this is simple, disconnect your appliances from the cable TV socket on the wall (Dont't forget the radio). If this solves your problems, you're lucky. It's quite simple to separate your cable TV without losing too much signal strength and it can be done at one point.
A galvanic separation of your cable TV can be achieved using the cable on the right, one of the plugs contains some components that separate the both ends of the cable but let the radio and TV signals through. This cable has been designed to eliminate a nasty ground loop at our studio.
We can build these cables in small amounts, at minimal cost. One cable costs around €15, a set of two(one for radio one for TV) will cost around €25, including packaging and handling. Mail me for more detailed information
