Tom,
Under Belgian law to be covered by the 2 year warranty for consumption good the issue must have been raised before within the first year. As You have not raised this issue before you are not covered by this. This a European Standard agreed between all Laptop makers and the European Union and their respective governments.

Hi,
I understand that battery life is reduced after time. But it's the flickering part that disturbs me, I noticed now that it even does that when the laptop is shutdown so even when it's not using power or charging (electrical cord out). The only way to make the flickering stop is to take out the battery... Is there a way I can make the flickering stop without having to take out the battery?! Still seems to me that there is something wrong and that it's not just lower performance!
I think that it's pretty bad that I should have to pay for a new battery. Especially since the laptop is only a year and 4 months old and it's mostly plugged in! By law companies in Belgium are obliged to give a 2 year warranty on consumption goods (next to the commercial warranty that apparently only lasts a year with dell). I can give you the link to the government's site that contains this new regulation that started on 1/1/2005 and apply's to me since the laptop was delivered to me in November 2006. So I'm asking myself.. Why do I have to pay for a replacement? It's not my fault the battery is no good and DELL is obliged by law to give me a 2 years warranty. I think it's even 3 years in the Netherlands... Hope to hear from you soon, so that we can get solve this issue.
Kind regards
tOM

Hi,
A few days ago the status led of my battery started flickering. So the third led in the right hinge of my screen, is constantly flickering like this: yellow – nothing – orange – orange – orange – orange.. and then it starts over. The orange ones go very fast. Along with this came a big decrease in battery life. Ever since I bought the laptop (a year and three months ago) the battery lasts one and a half hour on normal use. But since the flickering started my the battery life has gone in free fall

It just went from adolescent to an old man, just like that.. Sometimes it will last 10 to 15 minutes and at other times it works practically normal. Also the power indicator on the back of the battery isn’t functioning normally. Normally I could press it and it would show me how much current was in the battery… Now the first, third and fifth led light up when I push the button. I find this all really strange… I’m also afraid that this malfunction will somehow damage my laptop. This is my third dell laptop and it’s the first time that something like this occurs.. I’m very fond of my xps, so I would very much like to solve this issue before it gets worse..
Can you help me with this problem? Hope to hear from you soon…In the meantime I will take the battery out and keep my laptop plugged in when I'm using it, to prevent other damage.
