It was Pioneer's top-of-the-line amp back around 1981-82. 100wpc @ 8
ohms, 120wpc at 4 ohms, with pretty good stats and flexibility for
the day. It is heavy - about 20kg/45lbs, I would guess. It got good
reviews from Stereo Review and Audio from way-back-when (check the
library).
I have 2 of them (one in storage for now). The one that I use now has
been in daily use since I bought it around '81. Some have
multi-voltage power supplies (e.g., 110v or 220v) - this is evident by
a big round 'switch' in the back for voltage selection.
Common problems: noisy pots and switches (typical of older
equipment), and the display drivers tend to die. The protection
relays went on both of mine - I repaired one of them once, then just
hardwired around the relays after the second failure. The most
annoying problem is the noisy switches, and flipping them a few times
usually cleans things up.
They handle abuse pretty well; it was pushed fairly well during the
college years. These days it doesn't get pushed nearly as hard, and I
try to keep it well ventilated.
In short, a pretty nice amp, but probably not collectable. I bought
the second one for surround amps for about US$100 6 or 7 years ago.
I'd guess they're worth about that.
