So..I own a XPENG G9-LR (2024). I am mostly quite happy with the car except for a few things that are crucial for me.
- Collission warnings are very inconsistent
- Lack of auto break in collission situations /
- One pedal driving (car doesn't come to a full stop)
I've test driven for about 30 minutes the 7x and I loved it. I simply loved everything about it, except for one thing that is not a deal breaker but would be nice to have. Cameras not activating on the infotainment system when changing lines on the freeway. And I was told by the sales rep that most likely this will never change but again I mostly use the mirrors anyway, so not a huge deal.
However, I came into this thread and all I can see/read is lots of complaints about the software side of things. I am sure they are legit complaints but I am wondering how responsive is the Zeeker team.
I know for a fact that Xpeng has an open communication with their userbase and they do listen.
So, I am wondering how is the communication with the Zeekr SW dev team and whether they listen and act on the issues that are reported.
I'm going to reply in English for this one, because I want you to have the full picture before you make your decision. Whoever you are... hell, you could even be one of the devs themselves reading along 😂 Anyway, here's my two cents:
I think there are two separate things here: the car itself and Zeekr's software development/communication around it.
The car itself? I absolutely love it. Tech, innovation, quality and design were my main priorities when choosing a car and the 7X ticks probably 90% of my boxes. Mine drives like a dream and after owning it for quite some time now, I still genuinely enjoy getting into it every day, every hour, every minute, every second. Most of my criticism on this forum is therefore aimed at the software side, not the actual car.
Zeekr does
kinda listen. We have the Builders App (short for: BA) where bugs and feature requests can be submitted directly, no Discord type system just a old school system and I've personally reported quite a few things there. We've also seen bugs actually getting fixed in later OTA releases (steering wheel issue), so I definitely wouldn't say our feedback disappears into a black hole.
However... communication is where Zeekr still has a LOT of work to do. There are feature requests that have been open for months some YEARS, some relatively simple bugs take much longer than you would expect to get fixed, release notes are no where to be found, incomplete, guesswork and we have 0 insight into what the dev team is actually working on.
That's probably also why this thread can look quite negative from the outside from time to time. A lot of us actually really like the 7X, which is exactly why some of us are so active in finding/reporting bugs and requesting improvements. If I didn't care about the car, I wouldn't spend my time testing software updates and writing detailed reports in the BA. 🤷🏻♂️
The frustrating part is mainly the lack of feedback after reporting something. You can report an issue, provide videos, scenarios and reproduction steps, but then hear basically nothing for months. You don't know whether it's being investigated, planned, rejected or already fixed internally.
So coming from XPENG, where you're used to more open communication with the userbase, I think that's probably the biggest difference you'll notice.
My short version would be:
Does Zeekr listen? Yes, there is evidence that feedback and bug reports result in changes. Do they communicate well about what they're doing with that feedback? In my opinion, definitely NOT. There is always room for improvement but it looks like they don't adapt on it. Especially for a brand with Zeekr's vision. I genuinely believe they have the potential and drive to do great things, but right now, the execution and priorities just seem to be somewhere else.
And that's a shame, because underneath those software frustrations the 7X itself is genuinely a fantastic car. If Zeekr manages to improve the communication and speed/visibility of software development, I think it would solve a large part of the frustration you're seeing around the car.
Is anyone planning on attending the evexperience in Zandvoort?
They didn't invite me, so I guess they don't want me there. 😜
