Hello Tweakers! I hope English is ok. I moved here recently and got T-mobile 750Mbps fiber installed. However the Daytrek router sucks and I am not getting close to 750Mbps even when connected directly to the Daytrek. So I want to replace it.

Relevante software en hardware die ik

I have a Unifi AP-Pro and the unifi cloudkey. I also have a Linksys EA9500 which I cannot connect directly to the fiber cable because it doesn’t have an SFP slot.

Wat ik al gevonden of geprobeerd heb
I know there is some info on here but unfortunately I don’t speak Dutch and google translate is not really helping. Any advice is appreciated.

@Verwijderd Welcome to Tweakers.

Tweakers.net is a Dutch forum, so the Language we speak here is Dutch. However I understand you don't speak Dutch, so I will make an exeption for now.

Then two things: The Draytek should easily get 750Mbit/s when you test this with a wired connection. When it does not get to 750Mbit/s there is something wrong, and the customer service needs to fix this. What is the speed that you do get?

The Draytek sucks with wireless connections, because it is missing the 5Ghz frequency. You can solve this by using your own access point or get one from T-Mobile (see the message above here). I see that you have already got an Unifi AP. So you can shutdown the wifi of the Draytek and only use the Unifi AP for the wifi. I have the same setup and it works great. (Only I have an Unifi Lite and 100Mbit/s)

If you do want to change the Draytek for an another device. In the startpost of \[T-Mobile Thuis Glasvezel] Ervaringen & Discussie are some solutions mentioned.

waka waka hey hey

Try to do a speedtest whitout antivirus software enabled/ or just with another one. And you probably get the 750mbps. It was solved using another antivirus for me.

To know it for sure without the things above, download the speedtest app, this is not affected by any antivirus software. And I reckon you are testing it wired right?

If you don't speak or be able to understand Dutch then this might not be the right forum for you. You're missing out on a lot this way.

Should you want to replace your Draytek router you'll have to get some media converter (any gigabit one will do, you can use the SFP you already have) or get a router/switch with built-in SFP support (EdgeRouter X SFP) and configure it to use the correct VLANs (300 for internet, 640 for tv).

One note: the Draytek router is fine, as long as you're connecting to it wired. Wireless is a whole different story, 100Mbit max. If wired and getting less than 750 Mbit, it's either a client issue (firewall, antivirus, cabling) or your internet connection itself has issues. The provided router should be plenty capable of providing you the advertised speeds.

You can place a media converter (pricewatch: TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter MC220L between the fibre cable and your own router. This thread \[T-Mobile Thuis Glasvezel] Ervaringen & Discussie has more information on the subject (hardware - internet)

Thanks for the tip will do. However the WiFi is even worse with constant drops and speeds of only around 20 to 30Mbps even when standing next to the router. Tried several smartphones with the Speedtest app and laptops.

That's because the draytek does not support 5ghz,only 2.4ghz. So the maximum is 50mbps. What you can do is call tmobile and say that the wifi is slow you have the 750mb subscription and then they will send a guy and he will add an accesspoint. This will be the fritzbox wlan repeater (forgot the exact number). Did exactly the same, it's for free.

@Verwijderd , same problem here zipcode 5642. Got connected at July 25 and reported the first performance issues on the 27th cabled. Engineer visited Friday 3th August, which no result, now waiting on replacement moden and SFP.
