Boot directly to recovery mode by pressing and holding the POWER button on the device and plugging the power cord at the same time.
Once in Recovery, reset the device.
Note: In recovery mode click on the power button on the AirMouse to toggle the remote control mode -> that will make it much easier to use it.
It can take upto 15 - 20 minutes before it starts the man UI after a firmware-update as it installs the pre-installed apps and sets up settings

Go to 'Settings' then 'About device' and select 'Updater'. The version number should be shown. Although on XMC is shows 4.1.27 whereas the X download site calls it 2.4.1.27.
Alleen via wifi zijn de apps te updaten.

How to get in recovery mode? ( holding the power button or going to the updater and boot in recovery.)
As mentioned before, go to the Updater app at the main screen and choose RECOVERY. The player will reboot and automatically start the update -> provided that you edited the file as per procedure instructions.
For your case, use the udisk method and remove *all* USB devices except FAT32 USB stick with recovery.img on there. EDIT: Via the hold-power-while-inserting-power-cord-for-five-seconds method.

If you get "Installation Aborted" at any point during the update, it means one of these things:
(1) The downloaded update is damaged. Re-download it on PC, and test it on PC e.g. with the 'Test' command in WinRAR
(2) The microSD or USB stick has a damaged filesystem, reformat it (as FAT32 as usual) and extract the update ZIP again
(3) You have modified the firmware ZIP and the Recovery is rejecting it.
Although Recovery doesn't state it, "Installation Aborted" in this case always means that the signature or checksum is wrong. Meaning that it is damaged or has been tampered with.
I can't ever fault my device update, and I flash a *lot* - as expected with development - except when my microSD decides to damage itself (happens with all computers at times it seems) and this requires a FORMAT of the microSD, simply re-copying does not always solve it.
As for USB drives, some USB sticks (in my experience only some over 4GB) don't work well or at all. Also, other devices like keyboard and mouse plugged in to USB should be removed - my keyboard interferes with it for example. But microSD is much more reliable than USB, USB sticks are hit-and-miss depending on brand and size.

Xtreamer SW4 Recovery 1.0 Beta 3
Changes:
- Fixed USB Keyboard detection
- Updated for latest v23062014 firmware (if you try to flash the old 4.2 with this Recovery you will get an unstable device)
Known Bugs:
- factory_update_param.aml has no effect, ZIP must be manually flashed with menu via USB keyboard (instructions below)
This new Recovery will help with:
a) Systems which cannot boot Recovery
b) Formatting partitions manually when device is unstable
c) Saving log files if an update has an error
It has the following new features:
- "Save log" option. Chose this option when an update fails to install, select udisk or sdcard, and log file of last install will be saved there for you to share here
- More robust format and Factory Reset option. Bug was found in old Recovery where damaged data partition could not be recovered, new Factory Reset should better solve.
- ADB over Ethernet is enabled, for hackers and power users. Text will show on Recovery boot - "ADB server listening on 192.168.0.132" (IP cannot be changed) - you can adb connect here with ethernet to play around. This is also to assist support staff better in future.
Download (one-time manual use via USB stick):
Xtreamer_sw4_Recovery_1.0_Beta3_manual.zip
Download (flashable ZIP for repairing internal Recovery):
Xtreamer_sw4_Recovery_1.0_Beta3_flashable.zip
"Optional:
EDIT: Fixed it
How: By moving the files from USB to the internal sdcard folder. Now it sees the files and it updates. "
How to: Boot new Recovery
1) Unzip Xtreamer_sw4_Recovery_1.0_Beta3_manual.zip and copy the containing recovery.img to a USB stick, NOT a microSD card - Recovery can ONLY boot from USB stick.
2) Unplug device power, unplug all USB devices and insert only your USB stick with recovery.img. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. It does not matter which USB port you put the stick in, just make sure the other two USB ports are EMPTY. Make sure you have a HDMI display connected and already on. Hold the power button and keep holding it while plugging power back in, then release the power button after 3 full seconds. Wait for Recovery to load and text to appear.
3) Plug in your USB keyboard, wait 5 seconds. All text and display should disappear and reload, with Keyboard now working - if it doesn't happen after 5 or so seconds, unplug keyboard and try again.
4) Ok, Recovery is working.
How to: Flash this new Recovery to the device
1) This is a BETA Recovery. I recommend only doing this if your Recovery is damaged and you can only boot via USB as explained above.
2) Follow instructions above with booting recovery.img from USB. Also download Xtreamer_sw4_Recovery_1.0_Beta3_flashable.zip from above link and put it on the same USB stick.
3) Select "Install update from External Storage"
4) Select "Install from udisk"
5) Select the file "Xtreamer_sw4_Recovery_1.0_Beta3_flashable.zip"
6) Done. You can remove USB stick, and should now be able to boot Recovery via power button without a USB stick.
How to: Update the firmware with new Recovery
1) This new Recovery does not currently support automatic install with factory_update_param.aml so this is how you do it manually.
2) These instructions are for the v23062014 update. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH OLD FIRMWARE 4.2.
3) Download the update ZIP, extract it. Copy xtreamer_20140621.zip (or similar) to the USB stick or microSD. Only copy this file, there is no need for recovery.img (unless you are booting this new Recovery Beta 3 from USB), no need for u-boot.bin (has no use), no need for factory_update_param.aml (script doesn't work in this Recovery yet).
4) Boot Recovery via USB (from first How To above) or via Internal (if you flashed it from second How To above).
5) Select "Install update from External Storage"
6) Select "Install from x" (udisk or microSD, depending on what you copied to)
7) Select "xtreamer_20140621.zip" (or whatever the update ZIP is called).

Wait for it to finish, all done. Select Reboot.
Troubleshooting
Q) Following the first How To, I still cannot boot recovery.img
A) Please reply with your answers to the following questions: Can you boot the normal ROM? Does the power button work in the normal ROM (single short press should show Android power menu)
Q) Following the second or third How To (flashing recovery or firmware), the Recovery says signature verification failed
A) This means the ZIP you downloaded was damaged for some reason. Please try downloading again, and/or format your microSD/USB stick, and/or try a different microSD/USB stick.
Q) I installed the update, but my system won't boot
A) Boot to Recovery and select Factory Reset
Q) I get a different error in Recovery (e.g. formatting failed):
A) If you get any error text at all in Recovery, please select "Save log" option and save the log to microSD or udisk (USB). You will find recovery.log on the storage you selected, please attach it here or paste on pastebin and share the link here.
