We're back to shoveling out workunits as fast as we can. I mentioned in another thread that the gigabit link project is still alive. In fact, the whole lab is interested in getting gigabit connectivity to the rest of campus, which makes the whole battle a lot easier (we'll still have to buy our own bits and get the hardware to keep them separate). Still, it's slow going due to campus staff cutbacks and higher priorities.

With the heavy load on oscar (splitting and assimilating full bore) I got some good i/o stats to determine how much we should reduce the stripe size on its database RAID partition. This will be enacted next week during the return of the 3-day weekly outage. It's unclear how regular these extended weekly outages will be - we'll figure that all out in the new year.

But back to oscar... we were pushing it pretty hard today - almost too much. It looked like we were about to run out of workunits for a minute there but I caught it just in time. We're still trying to figure some things out.

By the way, I think there was some general maintenance around the lab in general, which may have caused a temporary network "brown out."

Zo weer een vruchtbare dag gisteren met vijf mijlpalen en een nieuw lid.
De nieuweling genaamd Pierre Aronnax heet ik dan ook van harte welkom

De vijf mijlpaal halers uiteraard weer proficiat met het behalen er van, en denk aan de rug want ze kunnen zwaar zijn

.

Waren we goed van start gegaan heb ik in de wandelgangen gehoord dat het werk aanvoer weer gestagneerd is. Ik ga er vanuit dat het een glitch is, en snel wordt opgelost.

Van 't gebrek aan werk heb ik nog geen last, maar dat zal wel komen omdat de koe ook vrij gehad heeft

Kijk dat dan.....MaGNeT (a.k.a. BlueTooth76) gaa zo hard die krijgt de mijlpalen om z'n oren. Ook Kets_One is een van de twee gelukkigen vandaag en krijgt een mijlpaal thuis 30k is ook niet mis.

Na een minor glitch is er weer werk te verkrijgen. Gelukkig niet de server's maar een HDD die dwars lag.

In the last few months SETI@home has made great steps forward thanks to the generosity of volunteers like you. In October, SETI@home received donations that allowed us to make the exciting purchase of new high-performance servers. Over the last month, the project has been in an outage as the team here at UC Berkeley has worked tirelessly to clean up the databases and complete a full server migration. This will allow the project to run more smoothly than it ever has before. Without the support of user donations, this major upgrade to the project would not have been possible.

Though the SETI@home project has been active for over ten years, we are still branching out and exploring new scientific directions. As you may know, the data that your computer analyzes comes from the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. While Arecibo is an immensely powerful telescope, it cannot see the entire sky. In the coming year, we hope to be able to start collecting data at The Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, allowing us to listen in on parts of the sky that, up until now, we have not been able to reach.

Furthermore, in February of 2011, NASA is slated to release data from the Kepler Mission, containing the location of several new exoplanets that could potentially be home to intelligent life. In 2011, we hope to perform a targeted search of the Kepler field, looking for signs of intelligent life beyond Earth. This search would also be done at the Green Bank Telescope.

In order to carry out these exciting new plans, we would like to ask you again for your support. SETI@home has always been a collaborative effort on a global scale; there is no other project on Earth that is quite as dependent on the help and contributions of the global public. Zo even snel de stats posten, dan kan de rest dadelijk rustig eten. Drie mijlpaaltjes gisteren en zijn inmiddels niet door de tnt afgegeven hoop ik. Sibert is ons komen versterken hoewel nog zonder punten maar daar zal gauw verandering in komen.

Ojaa Mr Beamer pakt ook nog even een plaats in de overal top dertig en staat nu halverwege.

Ik hou wel van sneeuw maar ingesneeuwd nee dat nog niet, dat was voor het laatst in 1979 toen lagen er "metershoge" sneeuwduinen en niet alleen in Drenthe . Heel mooi.

Buitengewone sneeuwval tijdens de winter 1978-79, zorgde ervoor dat grote delen van Drenthe van de buitenwereld werden afgesloten. Wegen waren onbegaanbaar en dorpen van de buiten-wereld afgesloten. Er werden sneeuwduinen tot soms wel 7 m hoog gemeten. Bussen en treinen reden niet meer.

Mijn interesse voor dit project is denk ik blijvend.

Er was de afgelopen week helaas geen nieuw werk.

Voordat ik echt in slaap val, nog gauw ff de nieuwe stats. Gefeliciteerd aan de mijlpaalhalers

Doe je zo je best om extra vroeg (volgens de klok

) de stats te posten, krijg je geen enkele reactie

Het was weer een leuk dagje. Kerstborrel op m'n stagebedrijf. Alleen ben ik maar wat eerder weggegaan, ik moest m'n auto nog uitgraven onder een laagje sneeuw van ca. 10 cm. En vervolgens van 't industrieterrein af zien te raken, zonder andere voorwerpen te raken. Best een uitdaging, als er op die uithoek van 't industrieterrein niet gestrooid wordt en de sneeuw van de hele dag inmiddels mooi egaal aangereden is tot een perfecte ijslaag.

Maar ik heb 't overleefd, dus nu kan ik maandag kijken of de ijsbaan er nog ligt

...ja, dat is dus eerst kersborrelen, daarna nog een week werken.

Ouwe troep? Wat is dat?.......Alles is leuk, zelfs modelracing..........BOINC ook mee met DPC!

Hier ligt een halve centimeter sneeuw maar iets zegt me dat er vannacht verandering in gaat komen

De koe heeft nu zo'n 2500 WU's op voorraad dus dat gaat ook prima, kan ik toch weer 6 dagen vooruit, mocht de boel er uit liggen

M'n output ligt nu op gemiddeld 35.000 maar dat zal nog wel wat stijgen. Er gaat iedere dag zo'n 9.000 - 11.000 naar "pending credits" en zodra die wat gaan "uitbetalen" gaat het er weer normaal uitzien

Voordat we door de aangekondigde sneeuwsituatie niet meer bij de statsbak kunnen, moeten we zorgen dat de stats voor iedereen leesbaar zijn.

In deze stats zien we een nieuw lid, maar omdat Krusher hierboven al aangegeven heeft niet nieuw te willen zijn, heten we hem dan ook niet welkom.

We're back to shoveling out workunits as fast as we can. I mentioned in another thread that the gigabit link project is still alive. In fact, the whole lab is interested in getting gigabit connectivity to the rest of campus, which makes the whole battle a lot easier (we'll still have to buy our own bits and get the hardware to keep them separate). Still, it's slow going due to campus staff cutbacks and higher priorities.

With the heavy load on oscar (splitting and assimilating full bore) I got some good i/o stats to determine how much we should reduce the stripe size on its database RAID partition. This will be enacted next week during the return of the 3-day weekly outage. It's unclear how regular these extended weekly outages will be - we'll figure that all out in the new year.

But back to oscar... we were pushing it pretty hard today - almost too much. It looked like we were about to run out of workunits for a minute there but I caught it just in time. We're still trying to figure some things out.

By the way, I think there was some general maintenance around the lab in general, which may have caused a temporary network "brown out."
