[Windows 7] Sysprep Error

Ik ben laatst aan de slag gegaan met de RTM build van Windows 7. Als wij 6 Augustus de keys krijgen wil ik eigenlijk een image klaargemaakt hebben om te kunnen deployen.

Nu heb ik Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit geinstalleerd. Even via de verkenner naar C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep en dan sysprep.exe uitvoeren. Daar kies ik voor OOBE met generalize, daar krijg ik een error: A fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine.

Nu ben ik via google het volgende item al tegengekomen: An error message occurs when you run "Sysprep /generalize" in Windows Vista: "A fatal error occurred while trying to Sysprep the machine"
Echter, ik heb geen XML antwoordbestand. Nu heeft dit item ook geen betrekking op Windows Vista, maar de errors lijken behoorlijk op elkaar.

Na het aanmaken van een unattend.xml file met het stukje code uit bovenstaande link krijg ik de volgende error:

Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file[C:\Windows\system32\sysprep\unattend.xml]. The answer file does not contain a valid <unattend> root element.

Ja inderdaad. Windows 7 en ook Vista werken niet meer met Sysprep, maar met de WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit). Ik vermoed dat de WAIK voor de RTM versie ook nog niet meteen op 8 augustus beschikbaar zal zijn. Maar dat kun je het beste even vragen in het populaire [Windows 7] Ervaringen en discussies - Deel 12 topic.

Yes dan ga ik het onderstaande met WAIK even proberen, wel raar dat ze die tools dan wel in Windows 7 integreren. Als ik bijvoorbeeld een OOBE wil maken dan ben ik dus mooi de pineut?

Tot nu toe gaat het erg goed, totdat we belanden bij STEP 2 van de deployment guide Windows 7. je moet namelijk op dat moment echt sysprep gaan gebruiken welke resulteert in de errors die ik in mijn 1e post heb beschreven.

Nou het is me uiteindelijk gelukt. Het blijkt een bug te zijn die al vanaf de BETA versie van Windows 7 bekend is.

Voordat je gaat syspreppen open je de task manager. je klikt even processen van alle gebruikers weergeven aan. en vervolgens kill je het process wmpnetwk.exe, dit proces is van Windows Media player. Na het afsluiten start hij automatisch na een 5 sec weer op, zorg ervoor dat dit process afgesloten blijft om ervoor te zorgen dat je sysprep niet failt!

Vanaf Windows Vista is sysprep juist ingebouwd in het os, en is het verplicht als je een image wil gebruiken voor de WAIK

het loopt telkens mis met sysprep denk ik, welke optie moet ik precies gebruiken op de reference computer?
=> installatie van win7 ultimate op de ref computer
=> configueren van instellingen (keyboard,netwerk,...) + installatie van nodige software
=> c:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep => al getest met /generalize optie , ook met oobe (wordt zonder problemen uitgevoerd)
=> vervolgens opstarten met winpe
=> uitvoeren imagex /capture
=> herstarten client => dit lukt niet, hij vraagt om opnieuw opstarten omdat er sommige instellingen niet werken, tot 4x toe, kdenk dat hij in een loop zit
=> imagex /apply op de doelcomputer
=> bcdboot c:\windows
=> reboot
