[Vista x64] Dual boot met XP als XP na Vista geinstalleerd

Ik heb twee maanden geleden een nieuwe PC gekocht en daar Vista x64 opgezet.
Op zich ben ik heel tevreden, maar een aantal van de programma's die ik gebruik doen het (nog) niet onder Vista x64. Vandaar dat ik op een aparte partitie nog een XP (32 bit) wil installeren.

Mijn vraag is nu: kan ik gewoon de Windows XP CD in mijn PC stoppen en booten, en dan op een lege partitie XP installeren? En werkt dan de multi-boot met Vista? Ik durf het nu nog niet te doen, omdat ik bang ben dat ik na installatie van XP, mijn Vista niet meer kan opstarten.

Ik wil liever niet alles opnieuw installeren, omdat alles net lekker draait en ik bovendien niet nog een keer wil activeren (heb Vista en XP netjes gekocht).

Kortom, hoe moet ik te werk gaan om XP naast de al geinstalleerde Vista 64-bit te installeren?

Dank je wel voor de informatie. Ik zie overigens wel meerdere oplossingen op de Microsoft site, die niet overeenkomen. Voordat ik het probeer, misschien heeft iemand ervaringen, welke kan ik het beste kiezen?

Eerste oplossing staat op Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration (Updated April 17, 2007)


1. Use Bootsect.exe to restore the Windows Vista MBR and the boot code that transfers control to the Windows Boot Manager program. To do this, type the following command at a command prompt:

Drive:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All

In this command, Drive is the drive where the Windows Vista installation media is located.
Note: The boot folder for this step is on the DVD drive.

2. Use Bcdedit.exe to manually create an entry in the BCD Boot.ini file for the earlier version of the Windows operating system. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt.

Note: In these commands, Drive is the drive where Windows Vista is installed.
• Drive:\Windows\system32\Bcdedit /create {ntldr} –d "Description for earlier Windows version"

Note In this command, Description for earlier Windows version can be any text that you want. For example, Description for earlier Windows version can be "Windows XP" or "Windows Server 2003".

• Drive:\Windows\system32\Bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=x:

Note: In this command, x: is the drive letter for the active partition.
• Drive:\Windows\system32\Bcdedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr
• Drive:\Windows\system32\Bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} –addlast

3. Restart the computer.

To install a previous version of Windows onto a computer running Windows Vista

1. Install the previous version of Windows.
2. Log on to the older operating system and restore the latest boot manager by running the following. Fixntfs.exe will be in the \boot directory of the active partition.

fixntfs /lh

3. Create a BCD entry for the older operating system by specifying the following. Bcdedit.exe is located in the \Windows\System32 directory of the Windows Vista partition. Description is the description of the new entry for the older operating system.

Bcdedit /create {legacy} /d “Description”
Bcdedit /set {legacy} device boot
Bcdedit /set {legacy} path \ntldr
Bcdedit /displayorder {legacy} /addlast

4. Restart the computer in order for the changes to take effect.

Wat ik raar vind, is dat in het ene artikel het al begint met Drive:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All terwijl het in het andere artikel begint met fixntfs /lh. Welke is het nou? Of werkt allebei?

Voor de nodige gemoedsrust kun je een IMAGE maken van je huidige installatie.
Mocht er iets fout gaan kun je deze binnen enkle minuten terug zetten.

Ik zat hier ook over e denken.

Al sinds de release draai ik vista ultimate en eigenlijk naar redelijke tevredenheid. het enige wat ik mis en wel graag wil is het oc-en van mijn 8800 GTX.

Alleen hiervoor zou ik graag een XP partitie maken . . . .
