Hello from Germany.

I am new here and I normally speak German so please excuse me for using (my bad) English. Lars, a cousin of mine, said me to ask my questions here 'cause he always gets good and guick answers so I will do so now.

I am searching for a new motherboard. It should have one AG-port and at least four SATA ports for running a raid 0+1 system. All the time I thought of taking a socket 939 board with an AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester. The only board which fits my specifications is the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. But this board does not support DDR400 at DualChannel, right? Or are there any alternatives? Now Lars told me to take an Intel CPU. But I do not know. It costs much more and I do not know what CPU and board is good. But the gaming-performance is less than the one of an A64 system and this is my primary target.

I Hope you can help me.

The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum does support DDR400 at DualChannel.. No problem ;)
Only problem I came across was using 4 double sided modules, max speed then is only DDR333.
Could have found it on the msi site, like me ;)

Well...

I understood it the way that doublesided DDR400 ist not supported at dualchannel at all. OK, I guess I will try.

Well this MSI s939 board could be considerd to be the walhalla for a AMD user.
If it didn't support ddr400 dc at all it wouldn't be all that popular. So no worries :)

EDIT

@ Siebolt
MSI owned die aarsus :P

@ DennisM
uhuh but why use 4 memorybanks :? you could go for a 2x512 or 2x1024 setup but anything above that is just plain stupid.

@copywizard
very complete :? LMAO :+

I thought that was a cpu problem instead of a mainbord problem. It had to do with the onboard memory controller in the A64 cpu's. These can only do 2 dimm's in dual channel @ DDR400. with 4 dimm's it switches to DDR333 as said above.

But I think I read in another topic that the new steppings which will be out soon do support 4 dimm's @ DDR400

Thanks.

The prob with Asus A8V and the Gigabyte Board is, that they have four SATA Ports but that they do not work in raid 0+1. The Gigabyte supports only raid systems with two sata ports (I think 'cause of two different raid controllers). And the ASUS supports raid 0+1 but only with two SATA and two PATA HDDs and not with four SATA ports. And I need a raid system with four SATA ports at a time.
