[debian] kernel panic: unable to mount root fs

Ik heb het probleem dat mijn netwerkkaart niet wordt ondersteund in oude kernels.
In de nieuwe kernels (2.6(.9)) wordt deze wel ondersteund. het gaat om een broadcom netextreme gigabit kaart.
Daarom heb ik een nieuwe kernel gecompiled, maar krijg tijdens het booten de fout:

kernel panic - not sybncing : vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(3,1)

ik heb de search gebruikt en ook google, maar ik heb niets kunnen vinden dat mijn probleem heeft opgelost.
in lilo.conf staat root=/dev/hda1
de kernels is gecompiled met ext2, dit is het fs van hda1.
ook ata drivers zijn mee gecompiled.
voordat de foutmelding komt, staat er in het bootscherm dat er 2 hd's gevonden zijn en een cdrom speler, dit klopt.
wat kan ik nog proberen om het systeem te laten booten met kernel 2.6.9?

Waarschijnlijk had je een pre-2.6.8 kernel draaiende en heb je een SATA HDD. Vanaf kernel 2.6.8 worden SATA HDD's gezien als SCSI devices, dus is de mount-point van je SATA HDD bv /dev/sda1 ipv /dev/hda1.

Dit moet je in je lilo.conf en in je fstab aanpassen en alles werkt weer naar behoren.

het is een 40gb ide harddisk en hiervoor stond er een schone installatie op van debian 2.2.18-bf2.4

Heb je ook udev of devfs in je nieuwe kernel gezet?

ben al iets verder, maar nu krijg ik het probleem dat de schijf waarschijnlijk geen ext2 is.
hoe kan dit want dit is toch het standaard linux fs als je deze instelt met de partition manager van debian(naam is me even ontschoten).
bij checking root fs krijg ik:

wat kan ik doen om dit op te lossen

Is het niet toevallig reiserfs?

voor zover ik weet niet,
als ik opstart via de debian cd met boot parameters: rescue root=/dev/hda1
dan laat deze tijdens het booten zien vfs: mounted root(ext2) of iets dat daar op lijkt

Je hebt je IDE-drivers en ext2 ook echt in de kernel gecompileerd en niet als modules?

Ik bedenk me trouwens dat "no such file or directory" ook wel eens zou kunnen slaan op fsck.ext2. Misschien kun je in je fstab de laatste 1 vervangen door een 0 bij /dev/hda1, zodat fsck niet meer wordt aangeroepen. Dan sluit een probleem met fsck ook uit..

wanneer ik dat doe krijg ik:

hierna gaat het booten verder, maar stopt het bij het starten van de cron scheduler.
na enige tijd komt er voor elke init [1 t/m 6]:

en hierna kan ik niets meer doen.
ik kom dus wel iets verder maar het probleem is dus blijkbaar niet opgelost hiermee

Dus bij het mounten gaat er nog steeds iets verkeerd..
Ik denk toch dat er iets mis is met je kernel als de rescue disk van debian er wel zo bij je HDD kan komen. Probeer nog eens de kernel opties bij langs te lopen om te kijken of je niet iets bent vergeten. Ik kan zo de kernel opties hier zelf niet zien (op m'n werk is het nog steeds Windows wat gebruikt wordt)

ik heb nml hetzelfde gehad

btw
wees er ook zeker van dat je lilo -v -v doet nadat je je conf aangepast heb
