Mijn misticriver verhaal:
Many albums are produced to be gapless.
And I don't mean the pop/hiphop albums with all the interludes between tracks, because in that case I wouldn't care at all if there is a small gap between gunfire or sex sounds or....
I don't mind having a small gap between crowd noise during live sets... it's just noise and allthough it can be annoying it really isn't a great deal for me if there is a small gap inserted in this noise..
The real problem is that on many albums the music doesn't allow a gap to be inserted and if you really listen to music instead of hearring music, you just really can't fully enjoy an album in the way it should be enjoyed when the music which is supposed to be gapless isn't gapless.
DreamTactix mentioned Dream Theater's Scenes From a Memory. A musical master piece. A very wel constructed and thought out concept piece of music on which many songs flow in to eachother. THere is a continuous flow of music during the entire album and you really can't catch that flow on the iHP. Imagine a piece of music in 6/4 flowing in to the next track with a interuption inserted.. the entire groove of the song is ruined and that's really unworthy considered how well constructed the music is.
This happens on many albums and especially on loads of symphonic/progressive rock concept albums, classical albums (and DJ sets, not my cup of tea, but I understand it can be annoying here as well). As a progressive rock fan I really find it unpleasant to listen to many albums on my iHP and prefer my good old CD player any day! If it only was more portable!
All I can do is hope for rockbox to be succesfull or hope on a miracle that Iriver will suprise us!!
We'll see. When Rio comes with a worthy iHP replacement I will change fronts!
I really love my iHP and for the way I use the player, it's almost perfect! If it only had gapless!!!!
