problemen met DivX en nieuwe HD

situatie: PII233 met 96mb ram, win98
eerste IDE-kanaal: nieuwe maxtor 30gig 5400rpm als master, oude quantum 4gig slave
tweede IDE-kanaal: cdrom en schrijver
Alles hangt dus ata33 aangesloten, DMA staat voor alle apparaten aan.

Na de installatie van de maxtor (en herinstallatie van het systeem op deze snellere schijf) blijkt het niet meer mogelijk om nog DivX-films te zien op het systeem. Vroeger lukte dit makkelijk. We gebruiken nog steeds mediaplayer 6.4, zelfde codecs als vroeger.
Zou het mogelijk zijn dat de beide harde schijven "ruis" veroorzaken op het IDE-kanaal? Het probleem lijkt wel minder erg op de oude HD, hoewel die toch een pak trager is (volgens Sandra dan toch)
Als er iemand suggesties heeft...

Ik weet alleen dat mijn oude 400 MHz er zelfs al moeite mee had.

bedoel je: framerate te laag? (ging het vroeger eigenlijk wel?)

Vroeger draaide het vlot, zonder schokken. Nu krijgen we zowat elke 5 seconden schokken in het beeld.
Het is daarom ook dat ik de interface naar de HD verdenk. Het draait even goed, en dan opeens schokt het weer even.
Ik heb hier trouwens al mensen gehoord die divX draaiden op een P133, maar die moesten dan wel eerst elke film naar een lagere resolutie omzetten.

Dit kan misschien je probleem oplossen:
open de divx filmpje en druk zodra het filmpje opstart op STOP. ga dan naar file, properties. Dan ga je naar advanced en selecteer je de Divx mpeg 4 video compressor. zet dan quality op 0, bij de eigenschappen van de mpeg layer 3 decoder, moet je het volgende instellen bij tabblad quality: frequency op half, stereomode op downmix, cpu type 486.(dit merk je niet kwa geluidskwaliteit) Als je dit zo instelt voor de film, loopt hij echt een stuk soepeler. just try it!!!!

Whats new on 3.11alpha release:
Only fixes the CPU Slider issue in the Direct Show decoder

Installation Instructions:
Download the file, install it to (Ex C:\Program Files\Divx)
Go to the start menu, find the divx folder, click 'Run Me First'
It will install the codec, if you dont do this step it will say
"unable to find appropriate decompressor" and its not installed correctly.

The best way to make divx play 100x better and in sync, ESPECIALLY if you have
a slower computer (p266+) here is how to do it, on almost EVERY Computer with
Media Player 6.4.09.1109 (I HIGHLY do NOT suggest the Beta Windows Media
Player 7 as it takes alot of resources)

Open up media player or any old divx file (movie, trailer, logo, intro anything)
Stop it completely (not paused). This should work with all computers running Windows
Media player, 9x and NT and Windows 2000. Do the following steps

1. Click View
2. Select Options
3. Under the Video/Zoom Tab should be a little bar with the words Hardware Acceleration.
4. Put this bar in the SECOND notch None - + - - FULL
5. Click OK
6. Click File
7. Select Properties
8. Select the Advanced Tab (Requires divx file to be OPEN)
9. Select the Filter: DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor
10. Click Properties.
11. Select the CPU bar and put it on 0 (all the way to the left)
12. This WILL reduce the quality of the divx, but make it more likely to play better
when you watch it. (Not out of sync, or other problems)

If you have an AMD K/6, and divx is not working try the following.

1. Do this only if you are experiencing the lost frames or other errors.
2. Make a backup of this file c:\windows\system32\divX_c32.ax
3. Delete this file.
4. See if your divx now has better playback. If not skip #5 and go to 6.
5. Delete your backup file.
6. Replace your backup file.
7. This is all i know about errors with AMD, and I can not help much more.
8. If problems persist, buy an Intel


Divx Tweaks and Things to know

* You must have a fast computer to watch these, 300mhz is suggested
* These movies are ultra compressed, and high quality.
* The tweak above, even if u have a 500mhz or faster, this WILL help.
* Windows 2000, most likely will help improve your playback.
* For the best quality use 32bit color mode.
* Also note that lowering your resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 will help playback.


These have not all been tested by me. I've used AMD technique from reports.
