[Office2k MSI]AdminStudio; Rare Fouten

Hey jongens,

We zijn hier op het bedrijf bezig er voor te zorgen dat de installatie van PC's en de software daarop volledig geautomatiseerd gaat via Altiris.. en nou heb ik de taak gekregen om van alle software die we hebben .MSI packages te maken om gedistribueerd te worden.

Dat ging tot nu toe best goed alleen nou probeer ik al een paar dagen een fatsoenlijke .msi te maken van Office 2000, alleen elke keer dat ik hem met de .msi installeer die ik heb gemaakt, werkt het lang niet naar wens.
Word start helemaal niet op, Excel maakt bij het starten een kritieke fout en word afgesloten, outlook zegt dat ie niet geopend kan worden en Powerpoint doet het een beetje. Dat wil zeggen; het start op en je kunt tekstjes in dia's typen maar hij vind geen spellingscontrole, bijna elke extra functie kan niet aangeroepen worden en die office assistant kan niet geladen worden (opzich wel een voordeel, dat laatste.. )
Verder lijken de snelkoppelingen FUBAR te zijn; ze doen nogal weinig gezien ze wijzen naar een lege directory in de Windows\install directory... (eentje met een naam die op een serienummer lijkt, heb hem zo niet bij de hand; testPC hangt niet in het netwerk)

We gebruiken hier Installshield AdminStudio 5.5, en ik heb al verschillende methodes geprobeerd; single-step snapshot, multiple-step snapshot, installation monitoring... maar allen met hetzelfde resultaat.
Ik heb al msi's gemaakt van installaties onder zowel fysieke als virtuele machines (VMware), ook met hetzelfde resultaat. Dit was trouwens allemaal onder Windows XP.

Ik heb zwaar het idee dat hij de helft van de bestanden die bij de setup horen niet mee neemt ofzo, maar ik heb geen idee waarom.

Heeft iemand enig idee wat ik fout doe? Ik hoop niet dat het iets met AdminStudio is want die licentie was niet bepaald gratis ofzo

edit: misschien ff toevoegen dat het Office pakket wél goed werkte na de normale installatie waar ik de snapshots van schoot.
verder moet ik er misschien even bij vermelden dat ik vermoed dat het probleem iets te maken heeft met hoe AdminStudio bestanden gescheiden houd van gemeenschappelijke locaties en het register om conflicten te voorkomen.

Kan je niet gewoon met een MST werken? Hierin geef je alle opties op hoe je office wilt installeren (welke pakketten, locatie, ...)?

Je hoeft dan enkel de MSI op te starten met als extra parameter TRANSFORMS=file.mst

Zo installeren wij ook onze software via Group Policy Software Distribution.


Dit kan je trouwens niet enkel met office maar met de meeste pakketten die als MSI zijn verpakt.

Voor Office heb je de Custom Installation Wizard nodig die in de Resource Kit zit (kan je gewoon downloaden bij MS).

Denk je dat dat wel goed werkt met zo'n mst...? volgens mij is die msi die ik maak niet echt lekker namelijk

krijg nou hetzelfde gedoe met acrobat reader... ga het nu even in een andere omgeving testen want dit schiet niet op... ik hou jullie op de hoogte

edit: begin aan de functionaliteit van dit progsel te twijfelen...
ik zal even de output plaatsen die hij geeft bij het builden van het pakket.. niet zo gek dat ie het niet doet trouwens, met die 'build failed' op het einde

hieronder de output van het builden van de Acrobat Reader MSI... die van Office lijkt er op maar is veel langer, dus die zal ik jullie besparen.

Voor Office (en alle andere microsoft office pakketten) kan je perfect met MST files installeren! Zo kan je de setup volledig unattended laten lopen (productkey ed. gaan allemaal in die mst).

Ook andere paketten zoals Acrobat Reader komt verpakt als MSI (je moet eerst je temp directory leegmaken, dan de gedownloade setup uitvoeren en in je temp directory zal je de msi files van acrobat reader vinden). Ook voor acrobat reader kan je er een mst file aanplakken. Dit kan je perfect met Installshield Studio.

Als je overigens even googled op acrobat+reader+mst dan vind je veel pagina's waar je die mst files kan download van gasten die ze al gemaakt hebben.
