Ik heb op een oude laptop Debian 3.0 r 2 geïnstalleerd, en alles lijkt te werken op de cli, maar X wil het niet doen.
Nu las ik in de documentatie dat mijn video chip problemen zou kunnen geven, omdat hij niet ondersteunt wordt. En verrassing, hij doet het dus niet...

Het betreft een Compaq Armada 7380DTM (een pentium MMx 266Mhz, met 64Mb geheugen, S3 Aurora64V+ 2Mb video, 12 Gieg Hdd, géén CD-Rom).

Kan iemand mij zeggen waarom ik deze melding krijg en wat ik moet aanpassen???
Ik heb X al eerder gedraait op andere pc's en had er eigenlijk nooit problemen mee...

Gezien de opzich heel duidelijk foutmelding zou ik even zoeken of de X versie die je draait (4.x gok ik) de videokaart ondersteunt

in xfree 3.x werd deze chip ondersteund door de "s3" driver en volgens mij in xfree 4.x ook, dus probeer die eens ipv de standaard vga driver en geef desnoods even handmatig aan hoeveel videomem erbij zit

Ik zag in een eerdere config staan dat deze chip officieel niet werd ondersteunt, maar dat de VGA driver zou moeten werken. Deze is als het goed is ook actief...

Maar waar moet ik dat precies instellen??? in XF86Config of XF86Config-4???

Mja, ik weet ook niet hoe het zit met de ondersteuning voor oudere chipsets, ik raad je anders gewoon aan xfree 3.x te installeren

ok, ga ik eens kijken

weet je perongeluk ook hoe ik xfree 3 in debian krijg??? kan ik daarvoor apt-get gebruiken, of zal ik het zelf moeten downloaden/compileren??? En moet xfree 4 eerst verwijderd worden of niet?

Voor t installeren van xfree 3.x op debian raad ik je aan even met google oid te zoeken (btw: al deze zaken zijn zeer makkelijk te vinden en op te lossen, een topic aanmaken heeft eigenlijk pas zin als je echt niet zelf kunt uitvinden)
