Intel en ALE signaal

Bij microcontrollers en processoren van Intel komt het signaal ALE veel voor, maar wat is dat signaal nou? Weet iemand dat? Is dat een soort timer of zit ik er dan helemaal naast.
Weet iemand hier meer info over te vinden?

ALE is basiskennis voor iedereen die weet hoe een microprocessor werkt. Uit http://www.davv.ac.in/lectures/micro/ch01.htm :

The lower eight address lines are multiplexed lines which also acts as data lines. These lines are demultiplexed with the help of an IC-8212 chip which is a 8-bit D-latch buffer register. The demultiplexing is controlled by an ALE (Address Latch Enable) signal. The ALE signal is issued along with the address. When the ALE is high the output of the buffer register is equal to the input. When it goes low the output of the chip is latched i.e. it stores the address to be accessed also the lines AD0-AD7 now act as data lines D0-D7.

dat multiplexen is om het ontwerp buiten de chip (aka de print/pcb) wat te vereenvoudigen en omdat een chip nou eenmaal een beperkt aantal aansluitingen heeft/had
