Hoi,

Thank you for using Microsoft Hardware Online Support. My name is Siddharth and I will be helping you today with the Trackball Explorer PS2/USB issue.

As I understand it, you are using Trackball Explorer PS2/USB with Alias Maya and are unable to assign the wheel button to the middle mouse button for the Maya application. Please let me know if I have misunderstood your concern.

Michele, I realize the importance of getting the issue resolved and will try my best to help you with the issue. You are correct when you say that some of the features with the latest Intellipoint are removed which were available with the earlier version of the Intellipoint software. Please note th
at to better support new and innovative technologies in Microsoft mice such as Tilt-Wheel, Bluetooth, and others yet to come, Microsoft decided to completely re-write the IntelliPoint software after version 4.1 was released. As a part of the re-write, all features, both new and old were re-prioriti
zed. Application Specific Button Assignments and Keystroke Assignments were cut due to time constraints.

We understand now how important these features are. Even though our customer research indicates most customers do not regularly use these features, we realize how frustrating their absence has been for those who do rely on them. Thus, great news! We are currently working as fast as possible on the
next version of Microsoft IntelliPoint, which will have support for both Application Specific Button Assignments and Keystroke Assignments. We have a tentative plan to release this by the end of this summer. Periodically check

for updates.

At this point let us try assigning the default functionality to the wheel button and check if it helps. To do so follow the below steps:

Note: The default functionality for the scroll wheel is auto scroll.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Mouse.
3. Click the Buttons tab.
4. Under Button Assignment, select the 'Auto scroll' function for the wheel button.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
6. Close Control Panel.

In case the issue still continues to occur I would suggest you to try reverting to Intellipoint 4.12 version of the software. To do so follow the below steps:

1. Uninstall the Intellipoint 5.0 software using the Add/Remove Programs in Control
Panel.
2. Delete all the folders pertaining to mouse and Intellipoint. Usually the mouse folders
are located at C:\Program Files
3. Restart the system.

Let us now start the installation for the IntelliPoint 4.12 software. To download and install the Intellipoint 4.12 software please visit the following link:

I hope this helps. Should you have any questions or concerns on the recent information provided, please write back and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thanks for using Microsoft Online Assisted Support.

Have a good day!
