chap secret wat is dat ?

Ik krijg de volgende message
/var/log/messages.2:May 11 11:52:55 XXX pppd[13031]: No CHAP secret found for authenticating ????
/var/log/messages.2:May 11 11:52:55 XXX pppd[13031]: CHAP peer authentication failed for remote host ???

daardoor kan ik geen vpn verbinding opzetten
ik heb al gegoogled hierover en kwam bij de rfc uit en bij een mogelijke oorzaak.
maar ik weet niet wat die secret is.

wat is de oorzaak ????

bij dit soort meldingen zit er waarschijnlijk een fout in de gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord. chap zorgt voor de autorisatie tussen de locaties.

User aan maken in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets ?

Dit is niet het geval de username en password klopt echt wel.
Wat zou dan nog een andere reden kunnen zijn ?

ook bij het proberen in te loggen krijgt hij een error 800

Is er niet ergens een shared secret in het spel? Meestal is dat tussen twee machines, maar het kan ook tussen twee programma's zijn. Tussen pppd en ldap of mysql of zoiets.
