[VPN] na tig pogingen nog steeds geen verbinding (error 733)

Als ik met een laptop (windows 2000 pro) wil inloggen op een VPN server (windows server 2003) via internet, dan krijg ik een foutmelding:

error 733: could not agree on ppp control protocols

De opties multilink en lcp extensions op de laptop staan uitgevinkt. Op de server is ingesteld dat ingelogde clients een vast ip (192.168.1.0) toegewezen krijgen. Slechts 1 client tegelijk is toegestaan. Authenticatie lukt wel, dus dat geeft aan dat de remote access policie correct is ingesteld. De VPN server is ook een NAT server voor een lokaal netwerk:

LAPTOP <---internet---> VPN/NAT server <------> lokaal netwerk

Ik gebruik verder het PPTP protocol dus geen problemen met NAT. De firewall op de laptop is tijdelijk uitgeschakeld en die op de VPN server is opengesteld voor VPN gebruik. Verder zit er geen router tussen de laptop en de VPN server.

Op het internet ben ik verschillende how-to's tegengekomen. Allemaal heb ik ze doorlopen, maar nergens wordt een oplossing voor mijn probleem gegeven. Als er al over error 733 wordt gesproken dan wordt op het uitschakelen van multilink gewezen. MAAR DIT STAAT UIT. GoT is voor mij echt het laatste station in mijn zoektocht naar een oplossing. Ik zou niet weten waar ik verder nog moet zoeken. Ook op de site van Microsoft heb ik niks kunnen vinden over mijn probleem.

Wie helpt mij uit de brand??

Eerste link had ik al gezien (verwijst naar het 'multilinkprobleem').

De tweede link geeft aan dat TCP/IP geinstalleerd en geactiveerd moet zijn voor alle adapters (wat uiteraard het geval is, want de server was immers al een volledig functionerende NAT router voor het lokale netwerk). DHCP gebruik ik niet voor de VPN-verbinding.

Geen oplossingen dus, maar toch bedankt.

Ik snap waar je naartoe wilt, maar het ip 192.168.1.0 is nog beschikbaar .

Als extra info kan ik melden dat de foutmelding zegt dat de server wel PPP ondersteunt maar de verbinding zelf niet. Hoe kan ik op de server zelf PPP aan de VPN-verbinding koppelen?

Grote kans dat dat de remedie is, verander je server ip maar, ook al zijn er niet veel meer vrij je adres is namelijk een netwerk adres, en dus niet beschikbaar als zijnde ip host adres. fundamentele IP fout dus...

cat, ik snap je post niet helemaal. Waarom zou ik het ip-adres van de server moeten veranderen? En wat betreft 192.168.*.* adressen maakt het toch helemaal niet uit welk adres je toewijst aan ingelogde clients als het maar telkens beschikbaar is binnen het lokale netwerk?

Het ip veranderen naar 192.168.1.1 heeft overigens geen effect, zoals al te verwachten was.

cat, doel jij op het feit dat het ip van de VPN server geen extern ip zou zijn? Dit is namelijk wel het geval, want ik zit hier op een universiteitsnetwerk. Geen gedoe met intern en extern ip zoals bij adsl-aansluitingen. Alle ip's hier zijn dus bruikbaar als host ip.

Ik weet niet precies hoe je verbinding maakt met de laptop maar heb je er wel rekening mee gehouden dat de ranges moeten verschillen?

Bijvoorbeeld:

Een pptp tunnel met een laptop met ip settings : 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 naar een netwerk in dezelfde 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 gaat niet werken.

Een verbinding die wel gaat werken is Laptop met ip: 192.168.6.1/255.255.255.0 en server aan de andere kant met ip: 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0

Dat de ranges blijkbaar moeten verschillen, begrijp ik niet helemaal. Immers, via de pptp tunnel wordt de laptop gewoon onderdeel van het lokale netwerk achter de VPN server. Maar goed, ik ga het meteen uittesten. De instellingen van het subnet kloppen in ieder geval: zowel server als client 255.255.255.0.

Heb een ander ip geprobeerd, deze keer 192.168.10.1 maar nog steeds dezelfde foutmelding. Het inloggen gaat tot aan de stap "registering on the network" en dan dus de betreffende foutmelding over het PPP-protocol.

De moeite van het proberen waard. Alternatief kun je de IP-stack van je server een keertje resetten: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=317518

[Verwijderd]

Na het resetten van de ip-stack is het gelukt. Dank je wel, Brahiewahiewa !! De VPN-verbinding is tot stand gekomen. Volgende probleem is dat de windows shares op de VPN-server niet toegankelijk zijn voor de laptop, maar dat los ik een andere keer op. Iedereen bedankt voor het snelle antwoord.
