[win 2003] op tweede harddisk installeren

ik heb freebsd op 1e harddisk en wil win 2003 op de tweede. Beide op 1e ide-bus.
Tijdens setup moet ik perse een dos-compatible partitie op de 1e disk hebben voor wat bootcode en die heb ik niet. Kan ik dat omzeilen, zodat disk1 gewoon een grote freebsd partitie blijft ? Bij freebsd zit een bootmanager, dus ik zou windows gewoon moeten kunnen booten lijkt me.

kan ik proberen ja op de disk2, maare de melding zegt dat op disk1 een dos-partitie-(tje) moet zijn en dat wil ik dus niet.

There are many ways to install NT/2K/XP/2003 in logical partitions and second hard disk. They are as follows:

Primary method is, first install the OS in the primary hard disk and boot into it. Now, format the required partition. If you do not format, it will not boot. It can be any partition in any hard disk. It can even be a logical partition. Then, copy all the files to that partition. You should now be able to boot from your second hard disk directly. Please note that, if you install any of these OS in a partition in the first hard disk, than you'll be able to transfer it only to the corresponding partition in the other hard disks. That is, first partition in first hard disk to first partition in second hard disk and so on...

Second method is, use a disk imaging utility like Norton Ghost or Power Quest Driver Image. First install the OS in the primary hard disk. Then take an image of that partition and restore the image into any partition in any hard disk. It can even be a logical partition. Install OSL2000 and you should now be able to boot from logical partitions or second hard disk directly.

Third method is, remove the second hard disk and make it the primary master. Now, create the required partitions and install the OSs. Then, connect the hard disks back the way they were before. Finally, install OSL2000 and you should now be able to boot from the second hard disk directly.

Waarom wil je dat niet? Je kunt de FreeBSD partitie behouden door het wat te verkleinen. Wat je overhoudt x MB's zet je over in een DOS-partitie. Mogelijk kan het met FreeBSD.

Server 2003 zet je op de tweede hd.

ok, zat oplossingen dus
maar ik zou verwachten dat er ook oplossingen waren waarbij ik nix op disk1 doe en gewoon disk2 installeer. als win2003 weet datdie op disk2 staat tijdens installatie, dan kan een 3th party bootmanager toch wel voor de jump naar de juiste disk+partitie zorgen.

Alle Windows-versies kunnen volledig vanaf een tweede harde schijf worden gedraaid. Het probleem is dat alle Windows-versies hier bij de installatie geen rekening mee houden. Er wordt namelijk vanuit gegaan dat Windows de eerste software-laag is na het BIOS en dat Windows er voor moet zorgen dat de boot na het BIOS goed verloopt. De enige garantie is dan om de boot-sector op de eerste actieve (en dus zichtbare) primaire partitie op de eerste actieve harde schijf te zetten. Voor 99% van alle gebruikers is dit ideaal, Windows kan dan zorgen voor een gegarandeerd goede boot. Windows kan overigens prima op de "D-schijf" worden geïnstalleerd, de voor de boot benodigde bestanden komen daar namelijk niet te staan.

Voor de overige 1% is een omweg nodig. Je moet de Windows-installatie laten denken dat hij op de eerste actieve (en dus zichtbare) primaire partitie op de eerste actieve harde schijf wordt geïnstalleerd. Er zijn verschillende manieren om dit te doen en een aantal daarvan heb ik hierboven opgesomd. Als de installatie eenmaal goed is uitgevoerd kan je een externe bootmanager gebruiken en kun je de Windows-installatie overal plaatsen waar je wilt.

Ik denk dat voor jou de makkelijkste manier het uitzetten van de "BSD"-schijf in het BIOS is. Hierna installeer je Windows, heractiveer je de BSD-schijf en stel je de boot-manager goed in.
