[Fedora] ATI Driver 3.7 werkt niet - Linux en overige clients

Hoi,

Ik draai Fedora Core 1 met een custom Kernel 2.6.0.
Ik heb de RPM van deze driver geinstalleerd en dat gaat allemaal hunky dory (zonder foutmeldingen enz).

Echter, X starten lukt niet. In de XFree log komt steeds de fout

(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:05:0
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:5:1) found
(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Er zit een regel in de configfile met de inhoud BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
Dus ik heb er een regel bijgezet (er onder) met de inhoud BusID "PCI:1:5:1"

Hij zeurt dan niet meer dat er geen matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:5:1) is maar begint te zaniken dat er geen matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:5:0) is.

De kift is, die regel is er dus wel. Er zitten nu dus twee regels in aangaande die BusID "PCI:1:5:x" ellende en hij blijft maar roepen dat die PCI:1:5:0 regel niet bestaat.

In de /proc/pci staan inderdaad twee ATI Radeon 9700Pro devices op PCIbus 1:5:0 en 1:5:1 dus die regels hebben de goeie inhoud.

Van google e.d. wordt ik niets wijzer. Er zijn wel anderen met het zelfde probleem maar daar zat een duidelijke discrepantie tussen wat er in /proc/pci zit en wat er in de XFree config stond dus dat is op te lossen met het regeltje in de XFree config aanpassen.
Bij mij klopt de inhoud van de XFree86Config met /proc/pci en toch roept ie dat de relevante device-section niet aanwezig is...

Ik wordt er een beetje moedeloos van

Het probleem ligt em denk ik bij het feit dat de TS nu twee video devices aan 1 screen probeert te koppelen, misschien moet je BusID "PCI:1:5:1" es aan Screen 1 ipv ook aan Screen 0 proberen te koppelen met een extra driverinstantie, ik weet echter zo niet meer hoe dat moet...

Lijkt me dat hij met 2 lines de weg kwijt raakt

Ja, het was ook maar een probeersel.

Als ik BusID "PCI:1:5:0" neerzet klaagt ie dat ie geen matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:5:1) kan vinden.

Als ik BusID "PCI:1:5:1" neerzet klaagt ie dat ie geen matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:5:0) kan vinden.

Ik heb al geprobeerd twee hele secties te maken voor elke instance maar daar trapt ie niet in.

Tijdens de config vraagt ie ook of je 1 scherm wilt of dual-head. Uiteraard kies je dan voor 1 scherm en daar rolt deze config uit.

Dat is wederom dat verhaal met de discrepantie tussen de inhoud van /proc/pci en wat de config-tool er van bakt. Maar bij mij vult de config-tool de waarde voor BusID wel goed in (wat bij hem dus niet goed ging).
Zijn oplossing (BusID op 01:00:00 zetten) helpt in elk geval niet. Dan gaat ie weer klagen dat er voor zowel de "BusID PCI:1:5:0" als "BusID PCI:1:5:1" geen secties zijn...

Ik herken je problemen. Heb hetzelde meegemaakt met een 9200SE op Mandrake. Ik heb manueel mijn X config herschreven aan de hand van de waarden ingevuld door fglx-blabla wizzard tool. Die bakte er op mijn zusje's PC ook niet echt veel van. Na wat manueel tweaken is alles nu in orde... Je moet wel een beetje verstand van X config files hebben, als je wil kan ik morgen (het is nu geen uur meer om m'n zusje wakker te maken) eens die X config file posten / mailen naar je.

Thx... could make some nice new pics maar dan moet ik 'm wassen en het is daar iets te vuil weer voor hier in .BE, icon is al een jaartje oud en staat al X aantal mods achter ;-)

Vanavond zal ik de config plaatsen... ben nu op het werk...en pc staat uit dus kan er niet op shellen.

Ehhm Zagato. Ik heb eens "zoek de verschillen" gedaan maar het *enige* verschil tussen de door jouw geposte config en de file die de config-tool bij mij standaard aanmaakt is

BusID "PCI:1:0:0" # vendor=1002, device=5964

Wat is er zo speciaal aan jouw config dan. Volgens mij is het een normale auto-created config met een gewijzigde BusID regel. Of zie ik iets over het hoofd ?

Ik heb jouw Config op mijn systeem geprobeerd (want op de BusID regel is die toch het zelfde als mij) en het werkt niet. Hij zeurt wederom dat er geen "matching Device sections" zijn voor de "instance (BusID PCI:1:5:0)" en de "instance (BusID PCI:1:5:1)"

Ik heb zelfs even twee kopietjes gemaakt van die hele "Device" sectie en daar andere identifier namen aan gegeven, elk met een van de twee BusID's.
Dan zou je dus zeggen dat er wel degelijk Device Sections zijn voor de twee BusID instances (1:5:0) en (1:5:1) en dan is het nog niet goed.

Ik wordt een beetje moe van ATI. Op RedHat 8.0 werkte de toenmalige ATI driver prima. In RedHat 9.0 en Fedora Core is het niet aan de praat te slaan

Unox: the worst OS!

Nou... ik blijf dat PCI-gedoe houden met m'n "ATi Radeon 9600 256MB ViVo"

Ik denk er sterk over om m'n oude nVidia GeForce 460 weer in te bouwen.

I suggest that if ATI doesn't clean up their act soon (release a REAL driver update in less than a month), we all sell our Radeons and buy used Geforces (the ones that we can get for 25 dollars), as we will get better performance.

This is my sick nature.

Iemand die hier raad mee weet?
Libxfree uninstallen is me niet echt gelukt want er zijn daar redelijk veel programma's van afhankelijk

Ik zou graag ook mijn Radeon ten volle benutten op linux.
Want mijn Warcraft3 loopt nu echt veeeeel te traag.
Weer een reden minder dan om naar linux te booten

De conflicterende libxfree bestand handmatig verwijderen of spelen met "forced" instellingen. Is eigenlijk niet helemaal netjes en kan tot problemen leiden. Ik zou je huidige bestand die wordt overschreven kopieeren en deze na de installatie weer terugzetten. Ik heb beide geprobeerd en geen problemen ondervonden maar je weet maar nooit.

Bij mij (2.6.0) werkt 3.7.0 niet geweldig (de glx kan ik niet werkend krijgen en moet uitgezet worden). Ik ben teruggegaan naar 3.2.8. Om de een of andere reden is 3.2.8 van de schneider site een paar MB groter dan de 3.7.0 van de ati site. Ik zie ook dat 3.7 nog niet bij schneider verkrijgbaar is dus ik haal mijn updates voortaan maar van die bron.
