Gebeld met Maxtor Ierland......
Heel behulpzaam en hieronder op mijn verzoek per email het antwoord.
Maw : Ik krijg gewoon garantie, dus Alternate
Verder helemaal onder 2 bedrijven die PCB's vervangen
The following are possible reasons why your warranty could be void:
1. The hard drive has been sent to us previously, deemed to have voided the warranty and was therefore returned to the sender un-replaced.
2. Damage caused during installation of the disk drive (e.g. damaged pins or connectors)
3. Drives has been determined to be stolen
4. Maxtor Serial Number or Part Number has been removed or defaced
5. Damage caused by modification or repair not made or authorized by Maxtor
6. Damage caused by the equipment or system with which the disk drive is used (e.g. blown power supply that also damaged the hard drive)
7. Other external damage like dented or cracked casing caused by improper handling
8. Opening the case of a Personal Storage Unit (USB, IEEE1394, or Serial disk drive). Please note that the warranty will also be voided for the drive inside the box as this is treated as a complete unit.
If you need more help please don't hesitate to contact us again. In order to allow us to deal with all enquiries as efficiently and accurately as possible we would ask that you include any previous emails when replying to us.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Maxtor does not sell circuit boards or any other parts.
Please be aware that the warranty (if still valid) will be voided if you replace the circuit board.
There are companies who sell older hard drives that might be able to supply you with a suitable drive with a functioning circuit board. These are companies we know of:
B & B Computer Trading

Germany

There might be a similar company in your area. Please search the web for "older hard drive sales" or similar and the country you're in.
To replace the circuit board on all Quantum and SCSI Hard Drives (up to and including the Atlas 10K III): Example GTLA or P/N ZZ10ayyz-xx-x (or ZZ10ayyz Rev. xx-x). ZZ and z have to be the same as the original drive, otherwise it is not possible to replace the circuit board. The same format applies to models DiamondMax Plus D740X, DiamondMax D540X-4K, here the relevant number is called Maxtor GTLA.
For the following Maxtor hard drive models: Fireball 3, DiamondMax 16, DiamondMax Plus 8, and DiamondMax Plus 9 there is also a GTLA Number on the model (next to barcode on the bottom of the drive). Format 1Y222J2223322. 1, 2 and 3 stand for numbers, Y and J for letters. The numbers 1 and 3 as well as the letter Y need to be identical to be able to replace the PCB on these drives.
To replace the circuit board on all other Maxtor drives the drives need to have the same PCBA uplevel number (which describes the revision of the circuit board) and need to be from the same drive family (e.g. Diamond Max 60 or D540X-4D).
They don't need to have the same capacity. You can find the model numbers of particular product families on our website. Under the following link
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/products/index.htm select your specific drive and it should show all model numbers of the same family.
The following link should help you locate the correct numbers:
