Als het de moeite waard is..... vraag ik het voor mijn verjaardagWhat basically IS Thud?
Thud is a two-player strategy game played on an octagonal board containing 165 squares.
Although the game is based on the Discworld series of books, and re-creates the legendary battle of Koom Valley, players do not have to know anything about Discworld in order to be able to play the game.
A complete game consists of two ‘battles’. One player commands 32 dwarfs arranged around the perimeter of the board, and the other player controls 8 trolls, who are clustered around the centre square that contains a rock.
The dwarfs have a different method of moving to the trolls, reflecting the natures of the two types of piece. The dwarfs also have different methods of capture to the trolls and both capturing methods are unusual.
Another feature of the game is that each battle is ended by mutual agreement and the result of the battle is determined by a points system that overcomes the numerical difference in the number of pieces on each side at the start. The result of the game is determined by the combining the scores of the two battles. The player who commanded the dwarfs in the first battle has command of the trolls in the second – so players will need to develop skills in handling both forces. The game is quite easy to learn and can be played at a variety of skill levels. It offers plenty of scope for the thoughtful games player to develop tactics and strategies in a novel situation.
For more detailed information on how the game is played, you will have to buy one, a rule books is supplied giving you all the instructions you need to start playing.
