Product overview
HP AdvanceStack Switch 2000 is a high-performance modular department or backbone switch that protects your investment by providing the broadest spectrum of media connections in the industry. It automatically optimizes network traffic for increased performance.
The six-slot universal port architecture of the HP AdvanceStack Switch 2000 can be configured with any combination of 10 or 100 MB per second (Mbps) interfaces to support 10Base-T, 100VG, 10Base-FL, and 100Base-T. It can also support up to two fiber distribution data interface (FDDI) or asynchronous transfer module (ATM) modules with any combination of Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, or 100VG interfaces.
Powerful Automatic Traffic Optimization software-including Layer 3 Switching, Layer 3 Protocol Filtering, Multimedia Traffic Control, and Multimedia Priority Assist-automatically optimizes network traffic to ensure the HP AdvanceStack Switch 2000 can handle your current and future network performance requirements.
HP AdvanceStack Assistant for Windows, included at no extra cost with all HP managed devices, delivers the tools you need to keep your network running smoothly. The new Performance Advisor feature in the software provides valuable recommendations on moving nodes, using switching technologies, and adding 100 Mbps upgrades-all aimed at maintaining peak performance in your network.
The HP J3100B AdvanceStack Switch 2000 has six universal port expansion slots supporting combinations of 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps ports (up to 12 high-speed ports).

Standard features
Feature
Description
Up to 12 high-speed ports
High-speed (1Gbps) bus powered by Intel 80960JD switch processor, supports up to 12 high-speed (100 Mbps) ports, 24 10-Mbps ports, or various combinations of the two
Choices of transceiver modules and media
Modular six-slot universal architecture provides expansion slots for 10Base-T, 10Base-FL, 100Base-T, 100VG, ATM, and FDDI modules; two-port 10Base-T and 100VG modules are transceiver-based and allow mix-and-match of media types
Complete management solution included
HP AdvanceStack Assistant for Windows management software provides traffic monitoring, real-time troubleshooting, and recommendations for improved performance
Automatic Traffic Optimization software
Optimizes performance and simplifies administration; controls traffic flow to increase efficiency and stability on the network without router overhead
Layer 3 Switching
Manages broadcast domains in a switch without requiring a router; stabilizes traffic by controlling broadcasts in a single- or multiple-network environment
Multimedia support
Dynamically allocates network bandwidth to support video servers and multimedia applications; supports IP Multicast (IGMP) control; includes Multimedia Priority Assist to enhance quality of service for video or multimedia applications
Module features
HP AdvanceStack Switch 2000 interface modules
Feature
Description
Ethernet Module
Provides support for legacy 10Base-T Ethernet environments with the four-port HP AdvanceStack Switch 2000 Ethernet module
10Base-FL
Module Provides 10Base-FL support via four-port Ethernet fiber-optic card
100Base-T
Module Provides the most raw bandwidth in switched environments and to servers where 10/100T adapters are installed, with either UTP or fiber-optic cabling (two ports per module)
100VG Module
Supports fair bandwidth sharing, for end-to-end quality of service for time-sensitive, multimedia applications (two ports per module)
FDDI Module
Supports one FDDI dual-attached station (DAS) port or two SAS ports (FDDI module is a high-power card; a maximum of two high-power cards are allowed in the Switch 2000 at any one time)
ATM Module
Supports ATM performance (OC-3, 155 Mbps; based on UNI 3.0 and LANE 1.0 ATM standards) via one-port ATM module (ATM module is a high-power card; a maximum of two high-power cards are allowed in the Switch 2000 at any one time).
