Abit KT7 + SB Live! Player problemen

Mijn systeem wil niet stabiel lopen. Al na een paar minuten, soms wat langer loopt m'n bak vast en kan ik alleen nog maar op de reset knop duwen. Graag wil ik van jullie horen wat je allemaal op je Abit KT7 (al dan niet met raid) heb zitten en in welk PCI slot de kaarten zitten en of je systeem probleemloos loopt natuurlijk.

Mijn configuratie:
Abit KT7 + Duron 800 (nog op standaardspeed, 41C)
ASUS GeForce DDR
Intel 100Mbit netwerkkaart
Creative SB Live! Player
Hollywood Plus
Adaptec 2940AU
Windows98SE UK of Windows Millenium UK

Ik heb alle COM poorten al uitgeschakeld maar zodra ik die SB erbij zet is het mis met mijn systeem, zonder SB lijkt ie wel stabiel maar gebeuren er zo heel af en toe ook rare dingen.
Met mijn vorige systeem (ASUS K7M + Athlon 750 en verder dezelfde onderdelen) had ik nooit problemen.
Het Abit board heeft ook nog een gare floppycontroller (ik kan niet booten van flop wat voor drive of disk ik ook neem) dus ik moet 'm nog omruilen. Zou een ASUS A7V wat zijn? Eigenlijk had ik stiekum ook een oogje op een Abit KT7 raid maar met al deze problemen weet ik het niet zo meer.

Heb verder geen probleem, enkel dat de SB16 emulatie geshared is met de LPT1 poort. Hoop dat je er iets aan hebt

Kijk anders eens naar een MSI K7T-Pro2A.. zijn ook HELE goede borden, ook via het BIOS te oc'n en erg stabiel.

How can I make my system stable with a Soundblaster Live! card?
The most common cause of difficulty is the SB16 emulation that the drivers seem to automatically install. This emulates an old ISA driver, which cannot share resources, and thus causes your system to hang when another device unwittingly shares.
This has been reported on a number of sound cards including the Diamond Monster MX300 and the Soundblaster family of cards. It is due to a conflict between the legacy SB16 emulation (which allows your soundcard to function under old DOS-only games) and the Highpoint controller provided on the KT7-RAID card. The SB16 was an ISA card, incapable of sharing its IRQ or DMA, and hence the problem.

The following installation sequence can solve this problem:

Disable Highpoint controller
Install sound card software
Re-enable Highpoint controller

Also note that Aureal provide advice on permanently disabling SB16 emulation before installing the drivers.

If this doesn't work, and you don't plan to play old DOS games on your system you can always disable SB16 emulation. You can also achieve at the time you install the soundcard drivers by doing a custom or advanced install and deselecting "SB16 emulation". If you have already installed your soundcard drivers, then how to disable SB16 emulation will vary from soundcard to soundcard. It will probably require you to boot into Safe Mode and then remove any mention of your soundcard from the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, and also to "uncheck" any option marked "SB16 emulation" under your sound card's driver in My Computer-Properties-Device Manager.

Alternatively, if you wish have both SB16 emulation and the Highpoint controller active, you can solve this problem by reserving the IRQ and DMA assigned to the soundcard as "legacy" in the PnP/PCI settings of the BIOS. This prevents the IRQ and DMA being made available to the Plug-and-Play system, and hence stops them being assigned to the Highpoint Controller. This is important as legacy IRQ's cannot be shared with other devices, unlike the IRQ's used by PCI2.1 devices. You can probably determine which IRQ/DMA has been assigned to the sound card by, again, booting into Safe Mode and then looking in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, or at the sound card driver in Device Manager in Windows. This way you can have SB16 emulation and the Highpoint controller - but you tie up an IRQ.

Met de info uit die faq heb ik al behoorlijk wat zitten stoeien...

Wat betreft je diskdrive,

ik had hetzelfde probleem met mijn kt7. In mijn geval had ik ide-kabel + drive waar de connector maar op een manier in kan. je weet wel met uitsparing / uitstulping aan lengte zijde connector. Deze zaten echter verkeerd om. Waarsch. heeft men bij de KT7raid de floppyconnector anders om op het mobo gezet. (handig). Oplossing gebruik ide kabel die op 2 manieren in je floppy kan en omdraaien maar.

ik kon niets met het ding, dus als je kunt lezen/schrijven zal dat het probleem niet zijn. Zal mijn mobo wel het enige zijn met een omgekeerde floppy controller:(

weet je zeker dat je alle bios settings goed hebt, probeer 'ns onboot floppy seek. Je hebt toch wel floppy als first boot device neem ik aan?

Dat was het. En geen problemen met installatie en geen conflicten

OK, ik heb het nu voor elkaar!
De oorzaak van al deze stabiliteitsproblemen is de SB Live! Player. Ik heb alles nu stabiel op 1000MHz met een SB128 PCI en een uitgekiende PCI slot bezetting.
Slot 2 Intel 100Mbit NIC
Slot 4 Adaptec 2940AU SCSI
Slot 5 SB128 PCI
Slot 6 Hollywood Plus
Verder alle COM poorten disabled en ook geen LPT poort (al kan die er wel weer bij qua IRQ's) en IRQ 5 als legacy device in het bios.
Proc is een Duron 800 op 1.85V met een FOP32 cooler.

Je kunt nu ook de laatste bios ophalen, daarin zitten 3 opties die je dan kunt uitzetten en voila: zelfs die kl#te Creative Live kan je systeem niet meer verkloten...
