Hoi Allemaal,

Nu zullen jullie wel denk weer zo een die de search niet gebruikt maar dat is niet zo, ik heb hem opgezocht en het bestand in etc/X11 gedit maar ik snap ten eerste niet hoe ik x-server moet herstarten, ik heb wel gewoon de computer herstart maar dat werkt niet want dan gaat hij automatisch weer terug naar 800x600 terwijl ik hem op 1024x768 had ingesteld.

Weet iemand een oplossing voor dit probleem?

O ja, bij Windows XP draaide hij perfect op 1024x768.

Uit je post kan ik ongeveer halen dat je de resolutie van X wilt veranderen :+

Zou je het config bestand (wsl in /etc/X11/ met de naam XF86Config-4 oid) hier eens kunnen posten? Bij voorkeur een linkje naar het bestand, anders wordt het zo'n zooitje.

Zo valt hier namelijk weinig over te zeggen.

Verder vraag ik me af of Redhat niet ingebouwde apps/control centers heeft om de resolutie te wijzigen?

Je kan met X je resolutie niet makkelijk je resolutie on-the-fly veranderen. Meestal is daar een reboot van het hele systeem (of KDM,GDM, XDM whatever je ook gebruikt) voor nodig (evenals wanneer je de kleurdiepte veranderd).

Zoals MikeN al aangeeft willen we graag je configuratiebestandje even inzien om je beter te kunnen helpen.

Hmm, bij een herstart springt ie terug op je oude instellingen? Zou niet moeten, blijkbaar zit er iets fout in je XF86Config, zoals hier boven al gesteld; post de config even..

Herstarten van je machine is, natuurlijk, niet nodig een simpele

- ctrl+alt+backspace

of

- kill -HUP pid-van-je-xserver

zal 't ook wel doen. :)

en als je gewoon xf86config zelf draait en die de config file laat veranderen ipv dat je het zelf doet?

Dan doet hij precies hetzelfde, zou het mischien komen omdat hij geen monitor herkent, want die kan ik namelijk ook niet instellen er staat: Beeldscherm niet onderzocht maar ik kan ik ook niet klikken op beeldscherm onderzoeken.

kan je met ctrl+alt+"plus teken van je numerieke pad" naar 640x480 springen (en terug?) Je xf86config aanpassen m.b.v. een tooltje kan wel eens helpen (soms vergeet je toch dingen). Let er trouwens wel even op dat als je een xf86config-4 hebt, dat je dan deze moet aanpassen...

ow, en als je niet je server wilt crashen, zoals iedereen je hier altijd aanraad met ctrl+alt+backspace, open dan een andere tty (met ctrl+alt+F5 bijvoorbeeld) en doe netjes /etc/init.d/gdm stop (of kdm of xdm, afhankelijk van je window manager). starten uiteraard met /etc/init.d/gdm start (of kdm of xdm.. etc)

offtopic:
ben erg benieuwd of die ctrl+alt+backspace "mensen" ook hun auto uitzetten door de koppeling heel snel op te laten komen in z'n een willekeurige versnelling i.p.v de sleutel omdraaien })

Ja ik kan hem van 640x480 naar 800x600 veranderen maar nog niet naar 1024x768 :(

als 1024 in je X config staat dan kun je het met xrandr (xfree 4.3, zit toch wel in rh hoop ik) on the fly wijzigen

Wat is 't merk en model van je monitor en welke vga kaart heb je precies, wellicht dat er daar nog wat instellingen veranderd kunnen/moeten worden.

Kun je trouwens ff je xfree logs sturen uit /var/logs, wellicht dat daar nog wat instaat.

Waarschijnlijk ondersteunt je monitor/grafische kaart wel 1024x768, maar niet bij die refreshrate/kleurdiepte?

Als ik redhat-config-xfree86 uitvoer dan krijg ik gewoon het configuratieschermpje van Redhat waar je je resoltutie in kunt stellen maar dat helpt ook geen zak.

Als je een boekje bij je monitor hebt, zou ik HorizSync VertRefresh even overnemen van dat boekje. Die instellen en eerst eens beginnen met een lagere kleurdiepte.
X11 kun je heel makkelijk restarten door ctrl-alt-backspace of door "killall X"

Het ligt aan de gegevens van je monitor, deze staan op de standaardwaarde:

HorizSync 31.5 - 37.9
VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0

Bij 1024 * 768 wordt je HorizSync minimaal 768*50 (768 lijnen en dat 50 keer per seconde), oftewel iets meer dan 38kHz (is nu dus max 37.9 kHz). Nou niet meteen die waarde gaan aanpassen, misschien gaat je monitor er dan aan. Eerst goed onderzoeken wat de spec's van je monitor zijn en dan die waarden voor Horizontal Sync en Vertical Refresh. Ik had zelf ook die problemen met een oude 200MHz en m'n laptop. Na het invullen van de juiste waardes, en de nieuwste NVIDIA drivers (heb je al, dus da's al goed) was het probleem over.

Dus niet zomaar wat aanklooien, eerst uitzoeken wat je monitor kan.

Qua bitdiepte (24 of 32 bit) zal je kaart het wel doen, dat heeft niet met de refresh en sync frequenties te maken.

Het probleem is opgelost,

het lag inderdaad aan mijn monitor ik heb redhat opnieuw geinstalleerd en toen meteen de goede monitor geselecteerd en toen deed hij het perfect,

Waarom? Wat is daar de meerwaarde van, als ik vragen mag?
De meerwaarde is een melding minder in je logs. Voor zover ik weet schop je met een brute kill je X onderuit met C+A+BS, op de andere manier laat je m een zachte dood sterven. Op zich een subtiel verschil, alleen als je standaard je logs grept op bepaalde meldingen (harde kills dus), komt ie er wel uit omhoog.

De meerwaarde is een melding minder in je logs.
Één log van XFree86 afgesloten door "logout" in wmaker, en één log door C-A-BS:

Voor zover ik weet schop je met een brute kill je X onderuit met C+A+BS, op de andere manier laat je m een zachte dood sterven.
Nee hoor, C-A-BS sluit gewoon XFree86 af. Dit zonder om bevestiging te vragen, en andere programma's kunnen dit niet tegenhouden, maar verder is C-A-BS niet bruter dan uitloggen. XFree86 een SIGKILL sturen, dat is bot.
Op zich een subtiel verschil, alleen als je standaard je logs grept op bepaalde meldingen (harde kills dus), komt ie er wel uit omhoog.
Nou, blijkbaar niet.
