Raar resolutie probleem

Gisteren heb ik uit interesse eens een linuxversie op een vrijstaande partitie van mijn harde schijf geintalleerd. Ik heb daarbij gekozen voor Lycoris. Installatie geen eigenlijk probleemloos. Alle hardware werd meteen herkend en Lycoris draait nu prima. Althans op een resolutie probleem na.

Ik heb een Matrox Millenium G400 Dualhead met daaraan een philips 180MT, 18" TFT monitor. Deze monitor heeft een native resolutie van 1280 bij 1024.

In het Lycoris controlpanel (KDE) komt de monitor niet voor. Ik kan een generic lcd-monitor installeren, maar dan kan ik maximaal 1024 bij 768 instellen als resolutie. Ik heb daarom gekozen voor een "typical monitor" met de goeie resolutie. Ik kan dan kiezen uit verschillende refreshrates.

Inmiddels heb ik heel wat combinaties van Monitor-type, resolutie en refreshrate geporbeerd, maar het resultaat is en blijft slecht.

Wat is het probleem?

Het beeld is of te groot, of te klein voor mijn TFT, waardoor ik een vreemde soort antialiasing krijg en de letters onleesbaar worden. Ook staat het beeld te veel naar links in vergelijking met mijn windows. Die horizontale positie kan ik hardwarematig wel aanpassen, maar de grootte niet. Ik heb rondgezocht, maar ik heb weinig idee, waar ik op moet zoeken. Weet iemand waar ik op moet letten, komt dit probleem vaker voor, kan ik handmatig iets instellen en zo ja, hoe? Het maakt werken met Lycoris eigenlijk onmogelijk.

dit zou ergens na te kijken moeten zijn maar ik kan het niet zo een twee drie vinden .... zou je het even in het boekje na kunnen kijken of dit ook echt klopt...

geen idee eigenlijk ken lycoris eigenlijk helemaal niet.....
probeer eerst de XF86Config-4 als dat werkt houden ze zich aan de standaard anders probeer maar gewoon je kunt het altijd terug zetten en op je veranderingen door te voeren herstart je X server met crtl-alt-backspace

Lukt het niet met de "auto" knop die op je monitor zit? Bij mijn 15" Neovo werkt dat prima, overigens nadat ik de XF86config goed had gezet.

Hier is een howto in het nl's XF86config howto

Het is een beetje een gepuzzel, maar er is wel uit te komen met de gegevens in je handleiding.

Je moet idd de HorizSync en VertRefresh veranderen in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, aangezien dit bestand de voorkeur heeft boven XF86Config (volgens mij stond de volgorde in 'man XF86Config'. Maar afaik heeft dit niet veel zin, want dit wordt toch ge-override door de Modeline regel?
