No infections, no crashes, no performance impact noticed. Fairly recent updates. The best system I've tested so far.
UPDATE: It seems nothing good lasts...
I found an offer to try Norman Virus Control 5 for five months. It didn't work out so well. It locked up my computer completely as soon as I left it idle for some time, and sometimes while I was working with it.
I search web and docs for solutions, and did what I could. Eventually, I posted the following message on their support page on the web...
Subject: 100% CPU for nvcoas.exe in Win 2000.
I have severe problems with my NVC 5 installation on Win 2000.
If I leave the PC idle for an hour or so, nvcoas.exe will take all available CPU capacity, and I see no other solution than to cycle the power. I can often switch programs with Alt-Tab, but the programs are unresponsive, and after a while I can't even move the cursor on the screen.
Similar lockups sometimes happen as I work.
Previously, I had my email (Eudora, with thousands of mail in about 45 mailboxes (two files each) in all maybe 50 MB) on a SAMBA server, and then I had to restart SAMBA now and then as the disk was constantly spinning and the server was unresponsive. Now, since I moved my email to the local machine, the problems described above appear.
I have no 2506 errors in the event log. Besides not scanning network drives, I've explicitly put the network mounted drive letter (H:\) in the exclude list.
I've applied the Zandafix.zip. No change.
I use "scan new or changed", not "scan before use". I also unticked scanning with heuristic methods, and for aggressive marketing and security risks to make life easier for the on-access scanner. All three values are ticked in "exclude from scanning".
Several weeks have passed, but I've heard nothing from them.
Also on the down side, you have to download a seperate 'uninstall' program to remove it. I found this after about 20 minutes of searching their site. Why not just include it in the install? Sgt. Banjo Dec 2002
