offtopic:
am proud to announce the new Microsoft ASP.NET Web Matrix version 0.6. The project has come a long way since its inception and I am excited that you have chosen to explore ASP.NET and try out Web Matrix. You will find Web Matrix is an excellent jumping off point for ASP.NET and will enable you to quickly and easily build dynamic, data-driven Web sites and Web applications.

With this release we were able to incorporate much of the community feedback directly into the new version. There are too many new features to discuss here, but some highlights include:

Microsoft Access Database (MDB) support
An enhanced design time experience including user control (.ascx) rendering, table editing and inline CSS style editing
J# support
Persistent FTP and Data connections between sessions
Full support of the .NET Framework 1.1 (Web Matrix and Cassini, the associated development Web server )
Enhancements to source editing including options for tabs and indentation
Unified plug-in model for implementing add-ins, code wizards and document wizards
Lots of bug fixes

These features and bug fixes were driven by the feedback loop that was established with our Web Matrix and ASP.NET communities. The feedback helped the Web Matrix team by enabling us to focus our limited resources most effectively. As a result, we have been able to further Web Matrix to best serve the needs of our users.

Web Matrix is important to Microsoft because it provides an excellent gateway into ASP.NET. By providing a lightweight, easy to use, community oriented tool we have enabled a much broader range of developers to explore the benefits of ASP.NET. In just its first year, Web Matrix has received over 600,000 downloads! Even as a technical preview, Web Matrix is a great tool for developers to explore ASP.NET and helps us connect with the development community.

Web Matrix is developed by a few members of the ASP.NET team as a fun project alongside the next version of ASP.NET. I would like to thank Andrew Lin and Eilon Lipton, two developers who played a critical role providing lots of exciting new features for this release, and John Dixon, Jon Jung, Kashif Alam, Carlos Aguilar Mares, and Vijayalaksmi Ramkumar for dedicating countless hours towards ensuring the quality of this product.

I hope that you enjoy this new version of Web Matrix and find that it helps you utilize ASP.NET to its fullest potential. I hope you find it still more usable in its updated form, and as always, I am looking forward to reading your comments, feedback, and suggestions in the forums.
